Itinerary
After pickup, the tour begins at the mighty Belgrade Fortress, whose walls have stood for over two millennia. You’ll discover why the city earned the title “ the Rampart of Christianity” and learn which great empires once ruled this area. As you explore this open air musem, your guide will reveal countless sites and captivating stories. This exploration is the perfect introduction to Belgrade’s rich past.
During the tour through the Fortress you'll walk by the open exhibition of Belgrade Military Museum. Here you can see weaponry from WWI and WWII, but also a '99 Yugoslav Army missile launcher which hit and brought down the "invisible" F-117 stealth bomber. You'll learn from the guide how Yugoslav Air Defence managed to "see" it on the radar and hit it.
Standing beside the Fortress, Kalemegdan Park is today a beloved public space, though in Ottoman times it was a battlefield. Here your guide will explain the meaning of the word Kalemegdan and share the fascinating story behind the monument “Gratitude to France”, adding depth to this historic setting.
Along the way, when you move from downtown Belgrade to Zemun, you'll drive through Kosancicev Venac area with the most famous landmarks: St Michael's Church, Princes Ljubica's Mansion and Patriarchy.
From downtown Belgrade, you’ll cross the rivers to explore the charming district of Zemun. Just a century ago, this area belonged to the Austrian Empire, which left a strong mark through its baroque architecture. With its unique look and atmosphere, Zemun tells stories that feel distinct from Belgrade, offering visitors a chance to experience another side of the city’s rich heritage.
The most captivating part of Zemun is Gardoš, with its winding streets, old houses, churches, and hidden corners where life feels slower and more relaxed than in bustling Belgrade. At the top stands the impressive Millennium Tower, offering breathtaking views over Zemun and the Danube, a perfect spot to soak in the spirit of the town.
After we walk down from Gardoš we will explore rest of Zemun. You'll get to enjoy old streets, authentic houses and main square. At the end you'll enjoy beautiful promenade on Danube's bank.
In the downtown Zemun you'll experience farmer's market rich with fresh seasonal vegetables, dairy, fruit and all kinds of homegrown food. If you like to try local tastes, farmers will be happy to offer you with a few bites of their products.
Optional Truffle Tasting: Wrap up the tour with a unique truffle-tasting experience. What an excellent tour. Andrija was very informative and so helpful. We learned such a lot about the history of Belgrade that we didn’t know. Highly recommended.
This was one of the best tours we ever did and that was due to our wonderful guide Dusan. He is very punctual, knowledgeable, humorous, committed and has responded flexibly to our interests. Organization was perfect, pick up by minivan outside the hotel. Dusan's English is also perfect, so we all understood him perfectly. I have been to Belgrade several times, but I have been able to learn new things from Dusan. Such a dedicated guide is what you want for every destination!
An amazing tour with an amazing guide! The care and dedication was second to none. I have been around the world and this is one of the best tour groups in the world!
