Description

Benefits of direct booking with Bat-El - complimentary hotel pick up and drop off, discount and more available dates. This tour offers a meaningful, expert-led exploration of Terezín for visitors seeking a serious understanding of the Holocaust, not a surface-level overview. Our work is based on over 20 years of research led by historian Pavel Batel, dedicated specifically to Jewish History of Terezín and Holocaust education. The tour goes beyond facts and dates, exploring daily life in the ghetto, deportations, Nazi propaganda, and Jewish cultural and spiritual resistance — always with historical accuracy and ethical responsibility.

Itinerary

The Terezín Memorial honors the memory of tens of thousands of Jews imprisoned in what the Nazis falsely presented as a “model ghetto.” In reality, it was a site of propaganda, forced displacement, and cultural resilience. Our semi-private tour, led by Holocaust educators, focuses on Jewish history and includes key sites such as the Ghetto Museum, Magdeburg Barracks, Jewish Cemetery, Crematorium, Small Fortress, and the Hidden Synagogue—preserved with original inmate-painted prayers. To see all the sites of Terezín properly would require several days. Our colleague always tailors each visit according to the group’s timing and interest. Unlike brief or rushed tours, we offer the most detailed and meaningful experience—with door-to-door service and insights based on ongoing independent research. All our educators are personally trained and work closely with Czech author and Terezín expert Pavel Batel, whose work is based on interviews with survivors and decades of field research.

This site served as housing for prominent Jewish artists, educators, and community leaders imprisoned in Terezín. Today, it displays preserved drawings, theatrical programs, musical compositions, and poems created in captivity. Your visit here reveals the ghetto’s role not only as a place of suffering but also of extraordinary spiritual and artistic resistance.

30 min

A deeply moving part of the visit, this site honors the memory of thousands who perished in Terezín. The cemetery holds both marked graves and mass burial sites, while the adjacent crematorium bears witness to the systematic handling of death during the Holocaust. Your guide will explain how memorial rituals and remembrance evolved here after the war.

Admission not included60 min

You will hear stories about the everyday life of the Czech political prisoners in a concentration camp during the Nazi era. Visiting the Small Fortress is a very dramatic and intensive experience. Pavel is describing facts from original memoirs written by eyewitnesses and survivors right after the war. He personally interviewed their family members. Czech survivors of the Small fort suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder when they should recall memories of extreme torture of the special group of prisoners who were not considered to be human beings. These prisoners had no names and no numbers and usually didn't live longer than five days. They were called Jews!

15 min

On the approximately 45-minute drive to Terezín, you will pass the site of Reinhard Heydrich’s assassination, connected to the famous Operation Anthropoid, while learning about the Czech experience during World War II and the role of the Czech resistance.

Excellent in depth experience

Excellent tour. Pavel has spent decades researching Terrezin and know so much from personally interviewing over 20 survivors. You get so much more out of this experience- not just dates and building history, but real narratives that make it easier to envision the life and death at Terrezin. This tour was very professional and worth the cost. I highly recommend it!

The Prague Jewish tour was excellent and Boris our guide was excellent. We were delighted and moved

We took a private tour of Jewish Prague with Boris. He was great. We did not take the Terezin tour , we took the Jewish Prague tour. Boris was great at understanding our interests and our level of knowledge and couldn’t have been nicer and more knowledgeable. I’d definitely recommend the tour and frankly I think it was worth getting the private not the small group tour

The most memorable/impactful tour in and around Prague

Our tour of Terezin was eye-opening. Our guide, Pavel, took us to several locations around Terezin, including some that other tours do not go to. More importantly, Pavel told the story of Terezin not just through facts and dates, but through the personal stories of the victims who were brought there. The tour had a profound impact on us. Though the stories are difficult to hear, it is important that they be shared and that the victims be remembered. We finished the day with a deep gratitude for Pavel's efforts to honor the victims' memories.

Very informative and highly recommended tour

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered so many questions. Having a small tour was perfect for learning and seeing so much than some of the other larger tour groups we saw. Highly recommend
