On your tour of Baku's Old City, you'll have the chance to explore the impressive fortress walls that have protected the city for centuries. Your journey will begin at the Double Gates, one of the main entrances to the Old City, which date back to the 12th century. These gates are a striking example of medieval Azerbaijani architecture and were historically used for both defense and trade. From here, you’ll begin a walk around the fortified walls, which stretch along the perimeter of the Old City. As you walk along the walls, your guide will explain their significance in Baku's history. Built to defend against invasions and protect the inhabitants, these walls were part of a larger fortification system that once included watchtowers, gates, and battlements. You’ll also see some of the original architectural features that have stood the test of time, offering a glimpse into the military strategy and defense mechanisms of the past.

During your tour of Baku's Old City, you'll also have the opportunity to visit the workshops of Ali Shamsi, a renowned Azerbaijani artisan known for his traditional craftsmanship in copper and metalwork. One of the most captivating highlights of the Miniature Book Museum in Baku is the world's smallest book, proudly displayed in the collection. This remarkable book measures just 0.74 mm by 0.75 mm, making it an awe-inspiring example of the extraordinary skill involved in miniature bookbinding. The tiny pages are filled with legible text, and the book is so small that it can only be read under a microscope. Visitors to the museum are often amazed by the precision and attention to detail required to create such a minuscule masterpiece. It’s a true marvel of craftsmanship, symbolizing the ingenuity and artistry of miniature book creators from around the world.

The Aliaga Vahid Monument, located in the heart of Baku's Old City, is dedicated to one of Azerbaijan's most beloved poets, Aliaga Vahid. Vahid was known for his poignant poetry that often blended elements of romance, patriotism, and social critique. The monument, which features a bust of the poet, stands as a tribute to his contributions to Azerbaijani literature and culture. As you visit the monument, your guide will explain how Aliaga Vahid's works reflect the spirit of the time, capturing both personal emotions and national identity. The statue is placed in a scenic area of Baku’s Old City, allowing visitors to appreciate the connection between Vahid's life and the city's rich history. This monument is not only a point of cultural pride but also an opportunity to learn about the literary traditions that have shaped Azerbaijan's cultural landscape.

As part of your tour of Baku's Old City, you'll also visit the historical caravansarais, which were once vital hubs of trade and hospitality along the ancient Silk Road. These large, fortified buildings provided safe lodging and shelter for merchants and travelers during their long journeys across the region. The two main caravarais you’ll encounter in the Old City are the "Baku Caravansarai" and the "Multani Caravansarai," both dating back to the 15th century.
