Backroads to Omaha D-Day E-Bike and Cemetery Private Tour

Description
Leaving Bayeux, we head into the Normandy countryside on small backroads that most visitors never see. Stone farmhouses, rolling fields, and apple orchards line the way through quiet villages that feel largely unchanged by time. Nearing the coast, a path opens unexpectedly onto Omaha Beach — wide, windswept, and suddenly right in front of you. We take a moment before riding on to the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where 9,387 white crosses stretch across the hillside in silence. The return to Bayeux follows the same unhurried rhythm — farmland, hedgerows, countryside roads that Allied troops once pushed through. A full day that stays with you.

Itinerary
Standing at the heart of Bayeux, the stunning Bayeux Cathedral is a masterpiece of Norman and Gothic architecture. Consecrated in 1077 in the presence of William the Conqueror, this grand cathedral played a key role in medieval history. Once home to the famous Bayeux Tapestry, it boasts intricate stained-glass windows, soaring arches, and remarkable Romanesque details. Its impressive facade and towering spires dominate the skyline, while its crypt reveals centuries-old frescoes. A visit to this magnificent cathedral offers a journey through time, blending history, art, and spirituality in a breathtaking setting.
Pedal through Normandy’s peaceful countryside on your electric bike, following scenic backroads from Bayeux to Omaha Beach. Leaving the city, you glide past lush fields and stone farmhouses, reaching the quiet and charming villages. The ride offers a glimpse into rural Normandy, far from the main roads. As you approach the coast, a narrow path suddenly opens onto Omaha Beach, revealing its vast shoreline in a breathtaking moment of surprise. This serene yet powerful journey blends nature, history, and the unexpected beauty of Normandy’s D-Day landscapes.
Stretching over 6 miles along the Normandy coast, Omaha Beach was the most challenging landing site of D-Day on June 6, 1944. U.S. forces faced intense German resistance, with high cliffs and fortified bunkers turning the beach into a deadly battlefield. Despite heavy losses, their bravery secured a crucial foothold in Europe. Today, Omaha Beach is a place of reflection, with vast sands, remnants of war, and memorials honoring the fallen. The peaceful waves contrast with its violent past, making it a deeply moving site where history and sacrifice come alive.
Overlooking Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer is a solemn tribute to the 9,387 U.S. soldiers who lost their lives during the Battle of Normandy. Perfectly aligned white crosses and Stars of David stretch across 172 acres, creating a powerful visual symbol of sacrifice. The site includes the Memorial, the Chapel, and the Garden of the Missing, honoring those whose bodies were never found. The sound of the waves below contrasts with the cemetery’s quiet dignity. A visit here is a deeply moving experience, offering reflection on the cost of freedom and the bravery of those who fought.
Leaving Omaha Beach behind, we take another peaceful countryside road back to Bayeux, far from the main traffic. The ride winds through rolling fields, dense hedgerows, and quiet farmland, following paths once used by Allied troops after D-Day. Passing through charming villages, we soak in the essence of rural Normandy—stone cottages, apple orchards, and grazing cattle. The road feels timeless, offering a moment to reflect on the history we've just witnessed. As Bayeux’s cathedral towers appear in the distance, the journey comes full circle, blending nature, history, and tranquility.

Ava and Thierry were great guides through the Normandy countryside and then to Omaha Beach and the U.S. cemetery. We highly recommend this experience for learning the history of the area —especially if you get restless sitting on bus tours! (I do) Ava and Thierry are super flexible so be sure to reach out and tell them what types of things you want to learn (we stopped at a few beautiful historic homes on our tour and learned a lot at an overlook of Omaha beach they took us to). We really had a great adventure on our ride and would do it again.
Thank you very much for your kind and detailed review....you even added pics!
I can't say enough good things about this tour. We rode e-bikes from Bayeux, through the french countryside to Omaha Beach. We visited the hills above the beach, the beach itself and the American Cemetery. Our guide, Thierry, was fantastic! He had intimate knowledge of the area and the history. It was a terrific afternoon!
This e-bike tour was a wonderful tour. To be able to ride your bike on quiet country roads past the countryside where our soldiers walked and fought was the most meaningful and humbling experience we have ever done. You will go rain or shine, the rain added to the adventure and our tour hosts gave us the necessary equipment to stay warm and dry. The places we stopped along Omaha Beach were places a bus cannot go. The time at the cemetery amd what we learned from our guides enhanced our day trip. Come prepared bring a snack, even though one was provided, in case coffee shops sre closed in off season. This was an exceptional day, humbling, interesting and so glad we did it you will be too!
Thank you Sharon and Bill for your very generous and complete review. We really appreciate. Kind regards, Ava and Thierry
Really enjoyed the E-Bike Tour to Normandy (Beach of Normandy and Cemetery) with a delightful ride along the beach included. Such stunning scenery, even along the ride through the beautiful countryside. Our two Tour Guides were great - a mother/son team that did an outstanding job ensuring our safety and making sure our questions were answered. Absolutely recommend this tour and would do it again upon our return to this beautiful area of France!
Our first review on this tour! Ava and Philippe are so proud:) Thank you very much for this kind review. All the best Thierry
