The history of Casa das Tortas (currently Pastelaria Regional Cego) dates back to 1901, when Manuel Rodrigues, a blind man, opened a room-renting and cake-making business in Azeitão with his wife, Teresa Prata. The original tarts were large, but later reduced the size to individual portions by their daughter, Albina, and granddaughter, also named Teresa. In 1975, the pastry shop was sold to Augusto Pinto, whose son, José Augusto Pinto, is the current owner and continues to maintain the traditional recipe, along with the pastry shop that has become a reference point for Torta de Azeitão.
Construída no século XIX, foi restaurada em 1923 pelo arquiteto Suíço, Ernesto Korrodi, tendo sido a residência da família Soares Franco até aos anos 70 do século XX. Com uma fachada e jardins de beleza muito especiais, tem estado desde sempre associada à imagem da José Maria da Fonseca. O percurso pela Casa-Museu inicia-se com uma breve explicação sobre a história da empresa, seguindo-se a visita às antigas adegas: a Adega da Mata e a Adega dos Teares Novos, onde estagia, entre outros, o vinho Periquita, e a Adega dos Teares Velhos, onde repousam os mais antigos Moscatéis de Setúbal, alguns dos quais autênticas relíquias com mais de 100 anos. No final, terá a possibilidade de conhecer e provar alguns dos vinhos produzidos pela José Maria da Fonseca, através de uma prova de vinhos.

Lovely day from beginning to end. Hugo was an exellent driver and guide - professional and welcoming, tailoring our tour specifically for our interests. Our lunch stop in Setubal had lovely views and outstanding, flavourful dishes. The wineries were beautiful, w excellent guides and tastings. Hugo determined we would be interested in understanding more about the artistry of Portuguese tiles and added a stop at one of the few businesses still making tiles by hand.

This is one of the best tours we have ever taken! First of all our driver Hugo was amazing! He gave us a lot of great information and was the right mix of helpful and chill at the same time. We could not believe how much he knew about history, the wineries, etc. This was our last day of our trip was an excellent way to finish the week. Be sure to sign up for this one!
