A great introduction to authentic African food (insects included) with a team who are passionate about their culture and cuisine. It was a lovely afternoon with interesting people. We appreciated their generosity and the efforts taken.
Great class that catered to plant based eating 🌱 Easy to book and communicate with. Easy to get to and from in an uber. Excellent narrative and cooking instruction and delicious dinner. Thank you 🙏
More of an eating experience than a cooking experience. The tasting of insects and catapilers was interesting. It was really good fun with nice people.
I had such a wonderful experience at this authentic African cooking class in Cape Town. Florence was incredibly welcoming and made the entire evening feel warm, personal, and cultural rather than just a cooking lesson. We learned how to make delicious chicken dishes and were introduced to a variety of traditional African snacks and flavors that I had never tried before. I especially loved hearing the stories behind the food and learning about the traditions that have been passed down through generations in their family. You can really feel the passion, hospitality, and pride they have in sharing African cuisine and culture with visitors. The atmosphere was relaxed, friendly, and genuine, and it ended up being one of the most memorable experiences from my time in Cape Town.
This was our 32nd wedding anniversary and I had been planning this trip for a year. We had a great flight, saw the sites, but this experience was the “icing on the cake.” Or better yet gave us the giddiness of kids making mud pies. We literally ate roasted caterpillars and termites for appetizers! But that was after Kaleb the host Father schooled us on the traditional African ways as of eating and cooking that are now being understood scientifically as protein packed, organic, superfood! He was thoroughly engaging. Florence host Mother picked up with the cooking lessons. We made “Pap” known all over the world by many names as the starchy mushy base to accompany a host of veggies, beans, and meat. It was fun, food, and friendliness that left us with cherished experience to take home. We concluded with a dessert of tea w/biscuits and a warm hug from Florence/ bear hug from Kaleb on our way out. Honestly that was the “piece d’resistance!” I’ve been to CPT from the ATL 2x in 12 months, I’ll be stopping by every visit from here on.
We have learned the tradition of the cooking af the South African way. You have to try all the things you normaly don’t at home. It’s worth it. The people who had teached us the traditional way were very lovely people. Many thanks, Sjaak, Joke, Joyce and Stefan
it was fun evening! Thank you! I think tourists will enjoy the African experience with lovely African people.
OMG, this cooking experience was fun, insightful, and really took me out of my comfort zone. We each had a part to play in preparing the meal, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It was great to learn about their cooking methods and how to make real peanut butter. The food was delicious, and trying termites and caterpillars was truly an experience. I never thought I would sample them, but I did, and I am glad I did.
This cookery class was the absolute highlight of our time in Capetown; Florence and Caleb were so friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the origins of the delicious food we were making, but also about the nutritional value of the ingredience and their impact on the planet. Thank you for an unforgettable experience - we will definitely be making chakalaka at home!
This was a fantastic experience, Florence and Caleb hosted a very engaging session - my wife and I both learnt a lot as well! Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has even a mild interest in food, cooking and history.
