Perhaps the greatest feat of American engineering and certainly an icon to this day, the Hoover Dam must be seen up close to be appreciated. Take a 1/2 day sightseeing drive to Hoover Dam, or include it as a stop on your way to Grand Canyon West Rim. At the dam, park and walk onto the wall to appreciate the sheer size and magnitude of the project. You will want to take photos from different vantage points around the dam to capture many fascinating details.
A modern-day engineering feat that equals the construction of the Hoover Dam - almost! Officials recognized the US 93 route over Hoover Dam as a dangerous and congested bottleneck with both existing and projected traffic volume. Construction began in 2003 and was completed 7 years later in 2010. This arch style bridge sits 890 feet (270m) above the Colorado River, the 2nd highest in the United States.
Grand Canyon West Rim is located on the land belonging to the Hualapai Nation. The Grand Canyon West offers a mixture of amazing Grand Canyon views and traditional cultural experiences all in a single location, relatively close to Las Vegas. Included in the Legacy fee to visit the area is shuttle to access 3 distinctive areas: Eagle Point, Guano Point and the Ranch. The Glass SkyWalk is perhaps the most iconic and famous feature of exploring this part of the Grand Canyon. The U-shaped, glass-floored walkway extends out beyond the rim, so you can look through your feet to the canyon floor thousands of feet below.
This stop in Grand Canyon West offers some of the very best views of the canyon, even from the general viewing area. The remains of an old mining operation in caves in the side of the canyon walls makes the location even more interesting that "regular" canyon views! If you have the energy, you can follow a relatively easy scramble to the top of a rock mound to get an even more elevated view of the canyon, and the rim.
This natural rock formation is located on the lands of the Hualapai Reservation and can be enjoyed as part of the Grand Canyon West Rim experience. The outline of an eagle spreading its wings is obvious and you'll learn more about the legends and these sacred rocks. The setting on the edge of the rim of the Grand Canyon is spectacular.
The 13 mile loop drive explores the canyons famous red rocks, but also has many elevated viewpoints, other startling rock formations and ancient petroglyphs. Hikers have a chance to explore several canyons, or to do some fun rock-hopping trails. The Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center offers indoor interpretive displays, an outdoor plaza filled with interactive exhibits, spectacular views of the surrounding red rock and a neat gift shop.
Spring Mountain Ranch is a state park and preserved historical site with some of the oldest building in Nevada. It has had some famous celebrity owners through its history - if only the walls could talk! The ranch is beautifully preserved and offers living history and cultural programs.
Who doesn't love chocolate? Forrest Mars Sr. (yes, of the Mars candy empire) founded Ethel M Chocolates as a retirement project in 1980. Named after his mother, this little venture reached $150 million in sales within a few years.
There is a superb elevated viewpoint along the Hoover Dam access road, where we can enjoy expansive views of Lake Mead, which of course was created by the back-filling of the dam.
Developed as a base to house the 5000 workers constructing the Hoover Dam. Built in a harsh desert environment it was meticulously planned and supervised by the dam construction consortium. To help keep laborers focused on their work, alcohol and gambling was prohibited. Today you still see some of the historic buildings in downtown, mixed in with cafes, diners and art studios, but you won't find any casinos, gambling still isn't legal here.

I purchased this self guided tour using my Viator rewards so wasn’t expecting much. It was worth a purchase. The tour started in Vegas and it guides you to start and end with directions. You can by pass the parts of tour you aren’t stopping at along the way. We drove from Vegas to West Rim and the areas where there were nothing to see the guides gave you history and other interesting facts about Vegas to the Grand Canyon. The time flew since I had it playing for the car. There was no need to have everyone in car download since to played over the car speakers. We didn’t take it when we went to sights since we were just enjoying the sight. On the way back the tour continues with more facts that were really entertaining. Guide spoke clearly and you felt engaged. Highly recommended. I will look for other self guided from same company in the future when traveling
Hi Jackie, thanks for taking our audio tour of Grand Canyon West, Hoover Dam & Red Rock Canyon. We’re so glad it exceeded your expectations and added value to your drive from Las Vegas to the West Rim. It’s great that the mix of directions, history, and storytelling kept everyone engaged—even during quieter stretches. We love that you highlighted the flexibility to skip stops and play it through the car speakers, and that the return journey offered fresh content, too. That’s exactly the experience we aim to create. We really appreciate your recommendation and hope to join you on the road again soon!
Horrible and misrepresented did not even get to use it because it was not what it claims to be. Still had to pay $30 there
Hi Daniela, we’re really sorry to hear about your experience—that’s not what we want for anyone using our tour. We’d like to understand more so we can help make this right. Could you share what felt misrepresented? Was it related to entry fees, expectations of what’s included, or something else? Our tour is a self-guided audio experience and doesn’t include admission to attractions, so we want to make sure everything is clearly communicated. Please reach out to us directly—we’re available from 9 AM to 6 PM EST and would be happy to look into this, help clarify, and offer a replacement tour or refund if needed.
It was great. We downloaded everything while on wifi before we left. Went to the indicated starting point and the tour started. Would definitely use again. Great for anyone who likes to tour at your own pace! You still get all the history & stories but go at your own pace.

Absolutely awesome guide to use we didn’t even need to use the sat nav, very accurate, but don’t speed as you might just miss a turn . Would highly recommend this tour guide

I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone driving from Las Vegas to Hover Dam and the West Rim. The narration coupled with turn-by-turn directions made the road trip totally enjoyable. What a deal for under $20. Only hiccup was the updated pricing of the West Rim access. The audio did a great job setting expectations of the pricing, but the four of us had to pay almost double what was mentioned in the audio as the Indian reservation changed pricing in May 2025 by only offering one combined price which was about $120 per person.
Hi Paul, Thanks for taking our Grand Canyon West, Hoover Dam, and Red Rock Canyon audio tour. We're excited to hear that the narration and turn-by-turn directions made your drive from Las Vegas both enjoyable and easy to follow. It’s great that you felt it was such a good value. We appreciate you pointing out the recent change in West Rim pricing — the updated information is very helpful, and we’ll review it to keep the tour current. We’re so glad you enjoyed the overall experience. We hope to join you on the road again soon!

Start it before you leave you place in Las Vegas as it does not sync to where you are . We went for lunch and had a hard time getting things synced so we could listen to the guide.
