We loved our excursion to the Meteora. We were taken care of from start to finish by Visit Meteora for transportation, the hotel, and the visit to the monasteries. We had chosen the package that included one night in a 4-star hotel, which turned out to be the Doupiani House. Thanks to its location in Kastraki, we were able to walk to visit an additional nearby monastery in the afternoon. The activity organized at sunset was wonderful; it is a must not to miss! The explanations from our guides, including Apostolis, were always very helpful and relevant. I recommend it without hesitation! Even though there are still many steps to access the monasteries, the view is always worth it!

Excellent experience, the hotel was great, the views were great. I highly recommend the guided hike, our guide, Christoph was friendly, informative and fun. The hike isn't too challenging but not overly simple either and the views and atmosphere are well worth it.

Very poor experience overall. The guides themselves were great but the organization around the tours was awful. Not only did the two tours (sunset + monastery visits) end up overlapping by around 70%, but the planning, instructions and transport were completely disorganized. At departure there were multiple different busses but none of them labeled with the company identified in the instructions and there were no tickets so we had to ask every bus driver if we were on the list. After the ride from Athens to Meteora, the bus was split between multiple groups to dispatch to the hotels but their list were wrong and we ended up being sent to the wrong hotel 2 kms away and we had to talk to multiple hotels for one to finally call the trip organizers and call the transport back to bring us to the right hotel. This took almost 2 hours, making us waste our first 4h of free time. After all these issues, the first tour was uneventful but they could not give us precise times or locations for the pickups even though they kept telling us we needed to be on time. There supposedly was an option to choose between a hike or the bus tour for the second day, there was absolutely no information on the hike itself (Duration, difficulty, starting point, etc.) or instructions on how to register for either activity. On the second tour, once the driver came we ended up being rushed by the staff even though we were 5 minutes early and that was even though we were not on the driver's list making us doubt if we were even with the right organizer. After the second tour, we had to go to the office just to make sure where the pickup for the return trip was since there were no instructions and just basically had to wait 5 hours in a restaurant for the return bus since everything else was closed. All that considered, the straw that broke the camel's back was that, for the return trip, 5 of us were shoved in the almost full bus of a 1-day trip group instead of returning with our group, which meant we had to wait 45 minutes for them to take a break before leaving, could not choose our seats and had to split or bargain with other guest to sit together in a bus that was way worse than the one we came in. For almost 600$ this kind of service is unacceptable...

However, we feel it is important to clarify several points mentioned in your review, as many of the concerns raised were already clearly explained in the detailed itinerary and information sent to you by email prior to the tour. Regarding the transportation, due to an unexpected last-minute mechanical service issue with one of our branded coaches during a very busy operational period, a replacement coach was used. This is why the bus did not display our company branding. Nevertheless, all passengers were checked through the reservation lists before departure. Concerning the activities, the itinerary description clearly explains that the second day includes the option to choose between the Meteora Hiking Tour or the Meteora Half-Day Sightseeing Tour. Detailed information for both experiences is provided in advance. We are therefore surprised by the claim that there was no information available. Additionally, there is no 70% overlap between the tours. The sunset tour and the second-day experiences are designed to be complementary. They include different monasteries, different panoramic viewpoints, and entirely different experiences. In particular, the hiking tour accesses hidden trails and locations that are impossible to reach by vehicle. Regarding the hotel transfer confusion, it is also important to clarify that you had selected the “without hotel” option. In such cases, guests are required to provide the exact accommodation or drop-off location details to our transfer staff upon arrival in Meteora. Unfortunately, the incorrect location information provided at that moment caused the confusion and delay with the transfer. Finally, we are genuinely surprised by the overall characterization of the experience, especially considering that thousands of travelers across multiple international platforms consistently rate this exact organization and itinerary exceptionally highly. Regarding the waiting time before the return transfer to Athens, we intentionally design the schedule to offer guests some extra free quality time at the destination. This gives travelers the opportunity to walk around the small town and villages, visit a local museum, enjoy an extra activity, relax at a café, or shop for souvenirs before departing. Many visitors actually stay in Meteora for 3–4 days, as the area is a large UNESCO Geopark with much more to explore beyond the monasteries alone. Spectacular tour with great guides. Highly recommend the hiking option; its a relatively easy 7km hike that has some of the most beautiful viewpoints I've seen. A magical region with deep history, and a charming town in the shadows of the rocks.

This 2-day tour was the highlight of our trip to Greece! The combination of the sunset tour and the hiking experience made it truly unique. Watching the sunset over the Meteora rocks was absolutely magical, while the hike the next day offered a completely different perspective—peaceful, scenic, and away from the crowds. Everything was perfectly organized, from the transfers to the small-group atmosphere. Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Staying overnight allowed us to experience Meteora at a relaxed pace, which I highly recommend. If you’re thinking about visiting Meteora, this 2-day tour is definitely the best way to do it!

I read on the suggestions that a two day tour was the best, but it is not! The visit to the monasteries is scheduled for the second day BUT only in the morning. So you finish at 13 hrs and the rest of the day, the agency “Visit Meteora” tell us that was “free time” in a small town just wasting your time. This is to wait for the One day tour until they finish at 17:15…. So you arrive very late in Athens around 22:30……. Some of our group, ask the manager of Visit Meteora for the chance to come back to Athens earlier but he absolutely said it was not “profitable” for the company…..

In fact, day trips from Athens involve many hours on the coach, limiting the time you can truly enjoy Meteora. The morning tour on the second day finishes after 13:00, and the free time that follows is intentional—not wasted. Between 13:30 and 17:00, there are many things you can do: enjoy a relaxed lunch, walk through the local market streets for souvenirs, visit nearby museums, or even explore an additional monastery on your own. This experience is not designed or operated as a fully escorted group tour from start to finish. Instead, it is a combination of small-group local tours with free time, allowing guests to explore Meteora at their own pace while staying in different local hotels. In addition, we carefully design and coordinate the overall logistics, including the transfers with coastal stops. As explained, operating multiple daily departures back to Athens would not be sustainable—this is different from saying it is not “profitable.” We are also actively looking into ways to better utilize this time by including optional afternoon visits, such as local museums, to further enhance the experience. At the same time, we would like to note that the weather conditions during your visit—especially the storms—may have also played a role, as they can limit the available options and overall experience during free time. This flexibility is exactly what many travelers appreciate about the 2-day experience, as it offers a more relaxed and immersive visit compared to the long and demanding one-day trip.
