Art tour of Ravenna and its mosaics (private tour)

Description
Ravenna: a treasure of the Mediterranean: A hidden world of mosaics and underground crypts, the absolute pearl of art of Emilia Romagna region. Several populations estabilished on the sandy Adriatic coast. This endless territory of marsh, wetlands, lagoons, swamps, despite being partially unhealthy, turned out to be the perfect shelter for a craddle of civilization. The pines of the coast started to be exploited by romans to build their undefeatable fleet. Our tour will be as rich in detail and complete as possible, in order to let you dive into this golden age, and let you travel back in time with your mind and your senses.

Itinerary
We will begin the visit with the church of San Vitale and its mosaics. This is not just the most important byzantine monument in the World, and dut to that a milestone of Unesco heritage, it is a mystic trip as well. It is a trip into the early middle age, and accross a huge book of mosaics and little gems.
Another Byzantine pearl, and Unesco site, it is famous for its mixture of marbles, mosaics, and sculptures; a unique ensemble of late Roman, Roman, Persian, Greek, and barbarian art.
Incredible the surprise, welcoming us, after this full immersion into the mosaic tiles, precious stones covered with glass paste and bright colors, set in the millenary red clay bricks: an underground crypt, subject to flooding due to the subsidence of the soil (a structure that reminds us to the Basilica Cistern of Istambul).
a Unesco Heritagem a grat temple of early Christian age, full of mosaics, and art masterpieces.
Visit to this great Museum, its huge collection of Roman, Byzantine, Barbarian and early middle ages manufacts, moreover an ark consisting of a wooden armor completely covered with finely carved ivory, represents one of the most precious artistic testimonies of the ancient world.
our last Unesco site of this great tour, a tomb of the sister of the Byzantine Emperor Onorio. The light filters accross the alabaster glasses, the golden atmosphere spread out all around the inner walls and domes. The ellenistic, the greek, and the persian iconographies tell a story dating many thousands years ago, when the Mediterranean Sea was a unique closed and interconnected basin, and a craddle of several wealthy civilizations.

This tour is done with a passion for the country, its history, and the beautiful mosaics of Ravenna. The in-depth knowledge shared with us greatly enhanced our understanding and appreciation of the beauty we found there. We would seek this tour out again.
Our guide was very knowledgeable.
Ricardo is an excellent guide and a fount of information and historical context. He showed us things we would have never found on our own and was so gracious and attentive with our questions and comments. The mosaics of Ravenna are a wonder. The mosaics of Ravenna with Ricardo are spectacular! Thank you Ricardo.
I learned so much about the Byzantine mosaics on this tour and the mosaics are amazing to look at. Riccardo certainly knew the history.
Our guide was very prepared and very interesting. We had an overwhelming load of information visually as well as verbally.
The incredible mosaics and the knowledge of the guide This tour encompassed most of the major sites in Ravenna
Riccardo is an excellent tour guide! He is knowledgeable and passionate about the local history and really enjoys sharing it with others. The mosaics in Ravenna are superb - a hidden gem! Riccardo was very generous with his time and easily accommodated last minute changes (including crazy traffic!). Highly recommend taking his Ravenna tour and any of the Bologna tours Riccardo offers! Wish I planned more time in Bologna, really enjoyed the day with Riccardo as a guide, he’s great!
The very interesting comments by our guide , and his constant attention towards us. A perfect day and discovery of those magnificent monuments
Riccardo KNOWS this city-the art, the architect and its history! Fabulous tour. He went above and beyond to assure we were able to see everything we wanted in the (unfortunate) short time we stayed in Bologna! We will come back and ask him for one of his other tours! Highly recommended!
The tour was very interesting full of information and details so you could go back in time. Very interesting, very informative, super well done. Riccardo is a very pleasant and very nice guide and I am so inexpressibly grateful that the tour took place just for me.
