A great day at Damajagua Falls and zip lining. Our driver Fernando and “Paparazzi Chocolatte” were excellent hosts. Pickup at Taino Bay cruise port was easy but be aware that it is about a 15 min walk from the ship to the Gate 5 pickup area. A 30 min drive in a well appointed and cool van led us to the Damajagua park. We were soon outfitted with life jacket, harness, helmet and water and we were on our way. The hike up to the Zip Line area is strenuous in places. There are built in break spots and the group travels at a moderate pace. Zip Lines were fun and fast, and the suspension bridges were cool. But the best part of the excursion is the Falls. The rock slides are short but quick, the water refreshing and cool. Lots of cheering on for the timid in the group and everyone ended up having a great time. A 15-20 min walk back to the entrance drops you at the restaurant where a nice Dominican lunch is served. Fresh hot food and good flavors of the local culture. 39 mins later back on the bus toward the port, you stop at a small plantation where we got schooled on several Dominican facts about the wildlife, plants, animals, and coffee, cocoa, and tobacco farming. We got a demo of fresh cigar rolling, a taste of wonderful Dominican coffee (hand harvested, dried, ground and brewed on site), and a couple shots of Mamajuana, the local spirit made from herb root, honey, rhum and red wine. We also learned about Larimar, the local stone from which beautiful jewelry is made (and sold on site). A couple hundred bucks later and we were well equipped with Hemingway cigars, jewelry, and some mamajuana. Another 20 mins and we were dropped back at the port. About a 5 hour total excursion, it was well worth the price and we’d recommend it to anyone enjoying adventure, agriculture, and local Dominican food and culture.
Experience requires hike to zip lines and water falls but is well worth it! Our guides were Elvis and Jonathan was our paparazzi! They were fun and the photos were phenomenal. Highly recommend!!
Wanted to give an honest review of my experience and things I wish I would have known: 1. From cruise port was about a 20 minute walk - people are helpful along the way to make sure you are headed in the correct direction - it was basically a spot on side of highway where they were allowed to pick up (but it was safe) 2. Van with 2 tour guides was very good - nice and cool and bottle of water given upon arrival 3. Once you get to the location to do excursion you will leave all belongings in the van (they were safe) but really you are encouraged to not take anything with you! Our money and everything was safe. You get helmet and life jacket there and are able to use the restroom real quick 4. Water shoes - I would suggest good hiking water shoes - not the cheap ones - so thankful I saw this on a post and got newer ones with support! the hike is rocky and unsteady a 5. The hike! I was a little taken back by the hike - it wasn't just a hike it was A LOT (like around 20'ish) flights of stairs. I was not prepared for this and am currently out of shape to be honest - so this was more challenging for me. I made it but a few things: Be sure to hydrate prior to this excursion (this would have helped me) and I didn't eat much for breakfast and that didn't help either > Thankfully it was shaded so the blazing sun was not on us - which was good!. The guides are VERY understanding and helpful. At one point I felt like was going to throw up and the guide pulled off a tree branch and was fanning me! It was very nice and helpful - I ended up being fine - 4. zip lines - safe and good - 5. Waterfalls- the slides for waterfalls you MUST do (all except one) I mean you have to do them , there is not an option to bypass this -but it was totally worth it and better than I expected! The last waterfall was one you had to jump in or could take the stairs down, but this was the only one you had that option 6. Lunch - our group felt lunch was ok - none of us were crazy about our meal that day 7. Plantation stop on the way back was informing and we weren't there very long - little shop and restrooms there if you need to buy something or use restroom. **You can pay $100 (they took Credit Card) to purchase a guide to take pics of your group through the excursion and they give you a flash drive with everything on it- and we chose to do that! I feel like this is well worth the money.
Our experience was amazing. Driver and tour guide picked us up right on time in the designated place. The tour guide, Daniella spoke great English and was a delight. Our guide, Justin, at the zip lines and waterfalls was also really great!
Ah-mazing. Highly recommend. When you get off the ship, it’s a very long walk to the bus. You have to walk out of the port area to the main road. Daniella, Jonathan, and everyone else are wonderful. I’m almost 60 and overweight. If I can do this YOU can. It’s so much fun and you’ll make great memories. Lunch is yummy and you go to a different site for the tastings. We had plenty of time for shopping when we returned. Have fun. This is a must do excursion and much cheaper than the ship excursions.
This excursion was extremely difficult even for the fitness guru. The videos and descriptions do not show or tell the whole story. Be very sure you have the right shoes and can sustain the hike.
This zip-lining and waterfall hike experience was absolutely worth it. The waterfall slides were the highlight — so much fun and such a unique experience. The guides were amazing from start to finish: professional, energetic, and made everyone feel safe while still keeping the adventure exciting. Transportation was very accessible and organized, which made everything stress-free. One thing I really appreciated was how mindful they were about cruise ship schedules. They got us back in plenty of time before sailing, so we could enjoy the excursion without worrying about missing the ship. If you want adventure, beautiful scenery, and a smooth experience all around, I highly recommend this excursion.
Driver William was fantastic and gave us great instructions from start to finish. Once at the Zip line/waterfall destination he handed us off to the tour guides seamlessly and we were on our way for an incredible experience. The tour ran longer than the stated 3-4 hours but we got back to the ship with plenty of time to spare. Had a great included lunch and a stop at a local goods store for chocolate, jewelry, Mamajuana and cigars. Viator has always been our go to when we travel and will continue to use them always. Saved about 40% from the ship tour cost!!
Thank You Prime Tours! Loved every minute of the waterfall adventure at Amber Cove! William and Becksy were extremely helpful, guiding and supporting us throughout. Highly recommend the Prime Tours team — and a great way to support local guides too. Thank you all!
We had amazing tour guides, both Danielle and William we amazing there and back. For the zip line and waterfall tour ask for Carlos and Brayan. Both were hilarious and made the kids feel totally confident the whole time. I was traveling with a 11 and 8 year old and they got them to jump off the waterfall! Highly suggest this excursion over the cruise option. We had AC van, food and multiple cultural stops. The cruise option had an open top safari style truck without AC and no food option for more money… Go this route if you have the option.
