For the San Francisco Bay Cruise Tour, it will start near Pier 39 where just a short walk from Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing. During this 60-minute Bay Cruise Tour, you will tour around the Alcatraz Island and under the famous Golden Gate Bridge, where you will enjoy breathtaking views of San Francisco and its bay! A great peek into one of the most storied of prisons. First a great boat ride over, then a short walk to find yourself looking into the cells of the prisoners. The audio tour is told by both prison guards and prisoners who spent time there. Cool and creepy all at once. Highly recommend! Warning: The smell of the island is HORRIBLE. We guess it's because of the nesting of about a million seagulls there. Loud and stinky. But don't let that stop you!
When I booked the trip it didn't explain that it would be separate boats. We thought we were getting the Alcatraz tour & the bay tour together but instead they were separate which took up a lot more of our time there.
Visitor appears to be a 3rd party ticket broker but their communication with the operators are awful. Has happened twice where actual tour operators do not acknowledge Viator descriptions. Getting resolution to issues was a nightmare….argumentative and time consuming. Problems start with imprecise tour descriptions and poor logistic info when you actually arrive at the tour site.
Amazing experience, be aware bridge cruise is not with the same company and you have to walk back to another pier
Very disappointed by the Alcatraz tour. Given the excellent reviews, I really expected to have an exceptional experience. We had chosen the night tour thinking it would bring something extra, but honestly, I didn't see a real difference from the day tour. Upon our arrival, it is not immediately clear where to go. The tour is essentially done with an audio guide, without any real accompaniment. I thought the site would be better maintained and that there would be more activities or staff to share the history of the prison. In the end, you walk through the cells with the audio guide, then you enjoy the view of San Francisco before taking the boat back. The tour is ultimately quite quick. Given the price asked, we were very disappointed. For us, this tour is clearly not worth its price.
Takes several hours to do but well worth it! Seen the movie with Clint Eastwood years ago. Also thought about visiting..
I paid for Alcatraz Island and a 60 minute bay cruise, that was an additional charge. That was paid for all four people. Upon arrival my bar code was for Alcatraz only. We did not get our bay cruise. I want a refund of the difference for all four tickets.
Hi, that’s because you went to the wrong place for the bay cruise tour. It’s not at the same pier as the Alcatraz tour but it’s valid for any day to use so you can still do it. Very informative trip. could do with the transport going down as well as up and more frequently than every half hour. I managed the walk as the slope is not steep but took a while.
It can get cold on the bay even on a sunny day , both activities were amazing prison tour was so interesting
Very good and interesting trip. Organised well. If you have the bay tour you have to go to the Alcatraz trip first at pier 33. Then after go to pier 39.
