Still in a good state of preservation, one of our first stops is the Ancient THEATER OF DIONYSUS. Built in the 4th & 5th century BC in a natural amphitheater on the slopes of the Acropolis it would have had an impressive capacity of 25000, it is considered the world's oldest. Amazing to think that many of the most famous Ancient Greek plays would have had their original premieres here!
Ascend towards the monumental gateway (Propylaia) and entrance to the Acropolis. As the Temples of the Acropolis come into view, the Ancient Greeks would have been greeted by an enormous decorated Bronze Statue of the Goddess Athena. As legend has it, the tip of her upheld spear could be seen by incoming ships in the sunlight.
Built around 420 BC, and one of the earliest temples of the Acropolis, this Classical Ionic Temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and is largely restored, with a prominent position overlooking the City.
The second largest temple of the Acropolis, the Erechtheion was Dedicated to both Zeus and the Goddess Athens and your guide will illuminate some of its wonderful Mythology and main aspects such as its impressive statues that you will now see in the Museum.
The pinnacle of the 'Golden-Age' of Classical Greece, this temple was an unrivaled mastepiece of Art, Architecture and Engineering as well as the heart of Ancient Greek ceremony and worship in Athens. We Take time at this most important temple with an overview of its construction, mythology and Historical importance.
Built in AD 161 by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, this stunning Marble amphitheater continues as a working theater to the present day.

We appreciated our tour guild to give us a very detail lecture during our Private Tour under the extreme hot weather and burning sun. Due to the heat, we think the lecture could be more simple and shorter, so we could have more time to walk around plus taking more pictures. We had very limited time for pictures but very long time for lecture during our 3 hours Private Tour. We wanted to visit Areopagus Hill for the best picture spot that so close to acropolis, but we could not even walk up the stairs for pictures, because we had to hurry to the next site “agora”. If the lecture was much shorter, we could have gone to the Areopagus Hill for pictures. Our Tour Guild should have modified with flexibility to fit our preferences, not her preferences. Not everyone would like to hear long lecture under the burning sun and heat. We need good introduction of the history, but it should be modified with simplicity and shorter version, so customers can have more time for pictures and personal time to walk around too. That’s why we wanted a Private tour, so we could be more in control of our own time, but sadly that it didn’t happen to our Private Tour.
Dear Silvana, After your poor review we immediately followed up with our guide & we are taking the unusual step of publishing her full reply below. For your information our guides are not photographic assistants. Rather they are highly educated versatile professionals that are able to condense their years of experience and knowledge into illuminating the wonderful history, culture and Mythology of Greece to all, from multi generational families with small children, to visiting scholars. We only consider ourselves fortunate to have such valuable and considerate people on our team and only consider ourselves unfortunate when their value is not appreciated, especially when in this case our guide did all possible to make your short time the best it could be. Our guides response in full: ''I am really sorry for this negative review. Actually,I was really taken aback by these negative comments of our guest Silvana Chu, because during our tour she gave me great feedback and in the end she praised me and even gave me a generous tip. Her overall comment was: "More lecture, less (fewer) pictures", but this is not quite right. During our tour I stopped at all the important photo stops and I became her personal photographer, taking numerous photos of her and her partner. As far as the "lecture" part is concerned, my tours are not lectures, but a vivid presentation of ancient Greek art, history and mythology in a fun and interactive way that engages my guests. However, I can completely understand the fact that whatever is considered to be a detailed and interesting account for one person can be seen as a sort of a "lecture" by someone else. However, I have to apologize for one thing: not walking her up to Mars Hill. I gave her a presentation of the Hill at the bottom of it, but we never climbed up. At this point, I would like to explain the reasons why I suggested not going up to Mars Hill. We had an hour left to finish the tour, which means we had to spend around 10-15 minutes walking to the Agora Entrance and 45 minutes to see the site. It was already 12.30 and the tour was supposed to finish at 13.30. It was boiling hot, as Silvana herself mentioned, and they were on a very tight schedule, as the guests themselves had already pointed out. In fact, they needed to get to Monastiraki square to visit a roof top cafeteria there for more pictures and then at 14.30 they would be picked up from Monastiraki square by their taxi driver. So, I explained to them kindly that it would be better not to climb up Mars Hill, if they wanted to have enough time after the tour to walk around Plaka and take their photos and they agreed without complains. If we had followed their plan we would have finished at 13.45 and along with the walking to Monastiraki square they would have had only 30 minutes left before they would be picked up by their taxi. Plus, they would be under the hot sun for extra 15 minutes. I really hope that by explaining to her the reasons why I suggested to do the tour this way, she will understand that I only cared for them making the most of this tour in such a limited period of time. In reality, at the end of the tour I even directed them towards Monastiraki square spending some extra time with them, even though this wasn't included in their three-hour tour. In any case, I can write a message for Silvana to apologize to her and explain everything to her, if you think this is necessary. '' We have informed our guide that no apology will be necessary! and also that her work continues to be highly appreciated by us.
Excellent and knowledgeable and able to make the area come alive to our children aged 7-11. Heartily recommended
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your tour with us. We hope to meet you again in the future! Warm wishes from all the team at Warmpenguin Tours
