Description

The Cotswolds is England at its most unhurried — honey-gold villages, medieval market towns, rivers running under low bridges, and countryside that looks like it was painted rather than grown. This private full-day tour from London gives you nine hours to explore at your own pace, in a vehicle that is yours alone. Your driver collects you from your London hotel or address and heads west into Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, stopping at four celebrated villages: Burford, with its medieval high street sloping to the River Windrush; Bibury, with Arlington Row cottages that appear on the British passport; Bourton-on-the-Water, where stone bridges cross the river through the village; and Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. No other passengers. No coach. No fixed departure point — you control the pace. Browse antique shops, walk Arlington Row, find a table at a Cotswolds pub. Your driver waits at every stop. Free Wi-Fi, bottled water, and door-to-door pickup included.

Itinerary

60 min

Often called the Gateway to the Cotswolds, Burford is one of the region’s most picturesque towns. With its historic stone houses, medieval bridge over the River Windrush, and the famous High Street gently sloping down towards the river, Burford feels like stepping back in time. You’ll find charming independent shops, traditional pubs, and tearooms serving homemade treats. Highlights include the impressive St. John the Baptist Church, dating back over 900 years, and the timeless atmosphere that makes Burford a favorite stop for travelers seeking authentic Cotswold beauty.

60 min

Described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England”, Bibury is famous for its idyllic charm. The highlight is Arlington Row, a row of 17th-century weavers’ cottages that have become one of the most photographed sights in the Cotswolds. Set along the tranquil River Coln, the village offers postcard-perfect scenery with stone cottages, quaint bridges, and lush greenery. Bibury captures the very essence of the Cotswolds and is a must-see for anyone looking to experience timeless English countryside beauty.

60 min

Famed for its low stone bridges crossing the gently flowing River Windrush, Bourton-on-the-Water is often called “the Venice of the Cotswolds.” This lively village combines natural beauty with plenty to see and do. Stroll along the riverbank, browse traditional shops, or relax in one of the charming cafés. With its pretty stone cottages, inviting atmosphere, and picture-perfect scenery, Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the Cotswolds’ most loved destinations.

60 min

Perched on one of the highest points in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is a charming market town steeped in history. Once famous for its bustling wool trade, today it’s known for its lively market square, antique shops, and inviting tearooms. Highlights include the medieval St. Edward’s Church, with its enchanting door flanked by ancient yew trees, often said to have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien. Stow combines history, character, and classic Cotswold charm in one delightful stop.

Fabulous day away from the city with Maria!

Our driver Maria was extremely kind and accommodating with our day trip out of the city and to the countryside. She provided us with a very comfortable and safe trip and was open to talking with us as little or as much as we wanted. She made some small suggestions and allowed us as much time at each stop as necessary. We never felt rushed or pushed into any type of schedule throughout the day. I would recommend a day trip with Maria as the driver for anyone wanting to get out of the busy London city for a day and see the beautiful countryside.

Cotswold

Virgil kindly picked us up from our hotel, making it a truly memorable day. Since we had a later start in the morning, due to our flight, he patiently personalized the tour just for us. He took many pictures and even guided us to a peaceful cottage that felt like a hidden gem, away from the crowds. We will definitely use him again!

A value for money private tour worth the extra expense!

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with Dan who brought us around the major sights of Cotswolds. His high octane energy is infectious and kept our spirits up throughout the day. The prices are reasonable but would be even cheaper if booked directly with the company! We love the convenience and the comfort of the private tour. Highly recommended!
