Itinerary
Dive into the fascinating world of Tahitian pearls — a true emblem of Polynesia — and learn the secrets behind their cultivation. Discover each step of the process, from oyster farming to the extraction of these precious gems. You’ll gain insight into the economic importance for the Polynesian islands and, of course, have the opportunity to take home a unique souvenir if you wish!
Explore this sacred site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a true spiritual and cultural center of the Polynesian Triangle. This historic place is where ancient Polynesian navigators performed ceremonies before their great voyages. You’ll discover the importance of ancestral beliefs and rituals that shaped the daily life of local communities.
Discover a fa’apu (traditional Polynesian garden) inspired by permaculture, and immerse yourself in local agricultural life to better understand the many plantations that feed the island’s residents. Watch a demonstration centered around the coconut, from husking to tasting, and learn how this essential fruit is used in everyday Polynesian life. You will also visit a local honey farm, where you will discover the secrets behind Raiatea’s honey production while tasting seasonal fruits and vegetables grown on site. You’ll also have the opportunity to taste and purchase honey and other local artisanal products.
Enjoy spectacular views of Raiatea’s lush mountains, green valleys, and crystal-clear lagoon. Traveling by 4x4 to explore the island’s interior (in a vehicle designed for everyone’s comfort) allows you to appreciate the stunning landscapes of the caldera, a remarkable reminder of the island’s volcanic past. You’ll discover local plantations — pineapples, coconut trees, moringa, taro, and more depending on the season — with insightful commentary from your guide. This is also an opportunity to better understand the profound connection between Polynesians and their natural environment, as well as the agricultural practices that sustain the local population today.

We learned an enormous amount of things with Hubert. Everything was extremely interesting, and you can tell that he is a man passionate about his profession and also very engaging. Moreover, we were lucky to be just two people and had a "private" tour. We recommend this tour 100%! You will leave with cultural knowledge that will make you want to travel to the ends of the earth to discover all of Maori culture!
The 4x4s offered unique views of Moorea. Crossing the middle of the island to see the caldera and pineapple plantations provided a different perspective of the island. The climb to Magic Mountain was wild but the views were spectacular.
Hubert is an exciting enthusiast. It will make you discover Havai'i, its history and flora like no one else. His anecdotes and sense of humor guarantee you a good time! It brings a constructive and relevant look at Polynesian culture, which we have not had elsewhere. Allow a little more time if you are like us the kind to ask questions 😊
Nice excursion in an open-air pickup truck. Seats were comfortable and roomy. It was a really hot day, so as long as we were moving, the breeze made it enjoyable. Our guide took us all the way around the island. The scenery was beautiful. Commentary was given at each stop but not continuously throughout the day since our guide was also the driver. Our favorite stop was at the Pearl Farm because we had a very detailed demonstration on the entire process.
This was such an informative tour to learn some interesting things about Raiatea. We got to see the beautiful and lush landscape of the island. Learned about the agricultural aspects of the island. Also learned about the traditions and culture/history. Our tour guide Hubert was amazing and had so much information to give us and his personality was Great! Hubert thank you for such a great experience!! 🥰 Kim and JR from San Diego!!
The guide was very knowledgeable, but we found there was a bit too much plant information. Viewing the Marae Site was very interesting.
Hubert met us promptly at the pier and reviewed the itinerary with us. The truck could seat eight but we had extra space since there were only 5 of us. The benches were well padded and comfortable. We were very happy that the weather cooperated and provided plenty of sunshine. All the views were breathtaking and Hubert’s descriptions and storytelling enhanced the experience. We stopped at his house to tour his tropical garden and sample its fruits and honey. Overall, a great experience.
Great tour guide , Herbert gave us a fantastic tour. Knew the island and all of its history. Pearl farm was very educational and explained how pearls come to be !! Great stops with wonderful views and lots of history. He took his time explaining all the beautiful features of the island. Had snacks and honey at his house and toured his personal gardens, which both enjoyed. Thanks again Hubert
We spent nearly 4 hours exploring this lovely island with a local guide who knows the Island well. We sped around the Island in the back of a Ford truck with padded benches which can accommodate 8, but we were only 4. We stopped at great vistas, a pearl farm, a holy site (Marae), and the guides home were we tasted his homemade honey and fresh fruit he grows himself. A particularly interesting character he sailed to Tahiti from France on a boat he built himself and now build his own house with a sustainable garden. He has been on Island for 35 years and has much to share. We and the other 2 guests enjoyed the guide, the time spent, and the Island.
Perfect. The guide is well knowledged and funny and caring. We see a lot of the things and he is patient. I really like this trip! If you come here with a cruise you should choose this!
Thank you very much for your lovely review. I’m really happy you enjoyed the day and felt comfortable throughout the tour. It’s always a pleasure to share the island in a relaxed way and make sure everyone feels welcome. Thank you as well for recommending the tour to cruise visitors — that truly means a lot. — Hubert
