Description

Join us on a scenic 4-hour small group minibus tour from Ísafjörður to one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, Dynjandi. Travel through the breathtaking landscapes of the Westfjords with photo stops at stunning coastal viewpoints along the way. Keep an eye out for seals resting on the shoreline, seabirds soaring overhead, and even the occasional whale spotted in the fjords. At Dynjandi, you’ll have time to walk up to the waterfall and experience the beauty of the Westfjords’ most famous natural attraction. On the return journey, we stop in the charming fishing village of Flateyri. If time allows, guests are welcome to enjoy a quick coffee, pastry, or light lunch at the local café while soaking in the atmosphere of this historic village. Departure times vary according to your ship’s schedule. We will send your exact departure time the evening before your tour. Tours typically depart around 90 minutes after your ship arrives and disembarkation begins.

Itinerary

Framed by steep mountains and wrapped around a quiet harbor, Ísafjörður is the cultural and economic hub of the Westfjords — and your starting point for today’s journey. Though small in size, this historic fishing town carries a big personality. Colorful 19th-century houses still line the old streets, and the harbor bustles with life, from working boats to adventurous kayakers. As we pass through town, you’ll get a glimpse of daily life here in Iceland’s most remote region — where modern life blends effortlessly with old traditions. If time allows, we may swing past landmarks like the old hospital-turned-cultural-center or the Maritime Museum housed in one of the oldest buildings in Iceland. Ísafjörður is more than just a gateway to nature — it’s a living community with deep roots in fishing, folklore, and resilience. From here, we’ll head into the fjords for a taste of Iceland’s wild, untouched beauty.

Rising like a shimmering bridal veil from the cliffs of Arnarfjörður, Dynjandi is not just a waterfall — it’s a full-body experience. The name means “thundering,” and you’ll understand why as soon as you step out of the vehicle and hear its roar echo through the canyon. At 100 meters tall, with a wide, tiered cascade that narrows elegantly as it climbs, Dynjandi is often called the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland — and for good reason. A short path leads from the parking area up toward the base of the falls, passing several smaller waterfalls along the way. Guests are welcome to hike as far as they like, or simply admire the view from below, where the mist dances in the sunlight and seabirds wheel overhead. Surrounded by dramatic fjord scenery, this is one of those places that stops time. Whether you’re snapping photos, soaking in the power of nature, or just breathing the clean mountain air, Dynjandi leaves a lasting impression long after the tour ends.

15 min

Tucked along the calm shoreline of Önundarfjörður, Holtsbryggja is a small pier and scenic viewpoint nestled in the village of Holt. This peaceful stop gives you a perfect snapshot of rural life in the Westfjords—where mountains meet sea in serene isolation. From the pier, you’ll enjoy a sweeping panorama over the fjord and surrounding peaks, often mirrored perfectly in the still waters below. If you’re lucky, you might spot seabirds gliding above or see locals launching small fishing boats, continuing traditions that go back generations. On calm days, the silence here is broken only by the lapping waves and the occasional call of an Arctic tern. It’s an ideal place to stretch your legs, breathe in the salt air, and take a quiet moment before continuing to Dynjandi. Whether you’re looking to snap a photo, admire the remote charm of the region, or simply soak in the atmosphere, Holtsbryggja offers a pause that feels like a world away.

Good, Interesting Tour

Ana was a terrific host and driver. Learned lots about local area and people and animals. Waterfalls are very impressive and lots of tourists! Note: pathway to upper levels is for agile and younger legs. Lower levels are well constructed and wide enough for 2 way walking. Some bugs here, so hat with face mesh is good idea. Timing was prompt and about 4.5 hours.

Impressive Falls w/ Small Group Tour

Beautiful falls, popular site so it can be congested, easy to access. Should you chose to hike up to the base of the larger falls, it can be a little strenuous. Our guide was a local who was helpful and able to answer any questions.

Great tour, good value,...

Great tour, good value, worth the time and money. Very long lines at the Hundafoos waterfall bathroom, used half of tour time waiting in line so plan accordingly. Well worth the view from the top but takes a little effort to get there especially when lots of people are on the pathway.

Could Be Better

There are a lot of great things to see on this tour route. Unfortunately, it seems they have a strict schedule of stops so we passed up a lot of cool things only to stop at places that really had nothing to view. That was unfortunate. This would have been easy to correct. Hope they reconsider future chores and stop when wildlife is abundant and it's an easy stop

Wonderful waterfall experience

Great experience with a great tour company. The falls were beautiful with plenty of time to experience them. Our guide was very informative about the area and answered all our questions. Be aware the path going up next to the series of falls is challenging for anyone with mobility issues, however you can still get a great view and experience from the bottom of the falls. The tour operator was great with communication prior to the tour with precise info about meeting place. He was there as well the day of the tour and greeted everyone. Highly recommend

Disappointing experience

The tourist guide (pronounced as Aio?!) performance fell short of our collective expectations. Firstly, introductions and descriptions of scenic spots had not been adequate; tones are not inspiring, if not bored; secondly, instructions are misleading and ambiguous, we were told that at the village spot, we will be given 30 minutes, and it was changed to 45 minutes when one of the group tourists requested for an extension; it was supposed for us to gather back to bus at 2:25pm, but four of us waited till 2:40pm before the tourist guide came out from one of the coffee shop; the rest of the group gradually got back to car in 10 more minutes; but the most unacceptable part is that 1) the tourist guide did not come out to tell the rest that they need more time; 2) we desperately wait for the rest of the group when it was supposed to be lunch time (we were hungry) and the wind was strong, and it started to rain; Not sure if he knows how to respect others, not to mention that we are overseas tourists. Disappointing !!!

Beautiful waterfall

Was a nice drive not too long the hike to the waterfall was great, Although did not have enough time to enjoy it, we were rushed so we can go to the bathroom, which has a long line, Also, would have loved to stop on the way to the waterfall , for some amazing picture opportunities of the mountains reflecting in the water, but it was not an option🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, the microphone in the van was static, and it was hard to understand the driver/ guide especially with his heavy accent.
