A great experience...

A great experience with Laila and Asma who welcomed us as if we were family. A wonderful atmosphere and especially a very good time around their excellent recipes. Thank you for everything!

Not what was promised, not much cooking, and we sat around and waited for something to happen for the first hour

Oumaima and Laila were lovely hosts and offered very nice atmosphere. It was a nice social experience afterall - and the food was delicious. However it was not what the description offered. First of all, group limit was meant to be 10, which was a big reason why we booked this class, as we were hoping for a hands on experience. The group was more like 20 people, half working in French, half in English (so I guess you could argue it was two groups of 10, but still). Then there was the first hour. I imagine that was the time when we were meant to be 'buying groceries from the market while teaching the class how to determine the quality of the produce' - we instead sat in a dark room for one hour, waiting for the French group to arrive. Did they go shopping while we waited? Who knows. No one told us why we were sitting around so long. 'Afterward, we head to the location where we have breakfast. I will teach you how to make Moroccan tea.' - this didn't happen. We were served some tea (with no apologies for the delays or any explanations of what's happening) at some point in that first hour of waiting. We have done a few cooking lessons before and this one was our least favourite in terms of the cooking side of things. Again, nice experience, very entertaining hosts etc., but we've not learnt that much. Everyone got to peel a carrot, or grate some turnip, but only two people did some actual 'cooking' (stirring a pot on a hob) and we were all preparing one dish all together. We then did get the chance to fold the pastry when preparing the appetizer, which was nice, and the only reason why I give this experience 3 stars and not less. I think if you're someone who's never made a dish in their life and are looking for a social activity to do with other travellers, you may enjoy this one. To us, it wasn't great and we think we overpaid for the group size, the experience, and the amount of learning and cooking that we've actually done. I'm really sorry, because like I say, Oumaima and Laila were very friendly, but this is not what was advertised, not what we expected, and not up to the standard we're used to as people who do cooking lessons when they travel.

Enjoyable cooking course

The cooking course was good. However, the communication was not. I received two phone calls and messages at midnight the night before, which woke me up, warning about cancelling the class and that they needed us to change to the afternoon, which we could not make. I confirmed this and they agreed not to cancel our class. We met at the meeting place and were asked to follow a lady to the class, it was difficult to keep up with her and we had no idea where we were going, as it is down many alleys. We were told that we would receive copies of the recipes that we cooked and after I sent a message to request these two days later, the request was ignored. It was a shame, as the morning itself was enjoyable and the food was very good, but this did taint the experience.

Adorable Mama

Great cooking class, we ate well. She was adorable, and gave us lots of recipes to make at home. Watch out for the market for the faint of heart. And the negative point is that there are too many people. I highly recommend this activity.

great experience

Excellent experience. Seeing how the food is prepared and the spice combinations were a good education as both my wife and I love to cook various foods from around the world. We meet some amazing people on the course and hope to stay in touch with them. Interesting to see the inside of a real living house. We met the whole family The only downside was finding the meeting place We can happily say try this course you will enjoy it Steve

Authentic cooking class

Almost didn’t go because there weren’t that many reviews on tripadvisor, but don’t let that dissuade you from doing it! This is definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Marrakech and it felt so authentic. She was so funny, genuine, and knowledgeable! We walked through the markets to get ingredients, then it was a short walk to the kitchen where we had mint tea (free!) and started prepping our food. We made pastilla triangles with a super flavourful veggie filling, a chicken and veggie tagine, and a dessert with fruits and yogurt. I highly recommend doing this the first day of your trip so you get familiar with the flavours and foods you’ll be eating the rest of your trip! It was also a great chance to meet other travellers.
