Description

Explore Lake Nakuru National park the only parks in Kenya where you can drive up close to White Rhino and may even snap a shot of them with flocks of flamingos on the Lake in the background. Lake Nakuru is a must-see for any avid birder, not only will you witness the spectacle of up to two million Greater and Lesser Flamingos. There are also many other water birds, most notably pelicans, herons and storks that call the lake home. The Park is one of the best places in Kenya to see Leopard and, as it is a Rhino sanctuary, this is one of the places in Kenya to see the Big Five. Leopards are elusive, so sightings are not guaranteed, but you may just come across one lounging on a branch. The Park is also a sanctuary for the rare Rothschild Giraffe.

Lake Bogoria no drive, but enjyoed lake Nakuru

We had 1night2days tour to lake Bogoria and Nakuru. At the Great Rift Valley, a tire had a small puncture but our driver guide Stephan dropped at a petro station and fixed it, it took less than 30min. At lake Bogoria, the park was flooded and we couldn't drive in the park at all, nothing but see thousands of flamingos. That's all for the entrance fee US$50! But it's OK otherwise we have no chance to see them so close, so many... On the way back, Stephan showed us the beekeeper on Acacia threes, stopped at the equator. The 2nd day, after breakfast we had a safari with our 4x4 roof top van. Stephan took us to watch a lion couple mating about 10m distance! We met rhinos(with a baby),zebras, giraffes, buffalos etc., visited a waterfall and spent more than 4 hours. Stephan is nice and helpful, careful driver so that we had a very good time. He shared with us a tasty local biskets which he bought from a vender on the road near nakuru. We like it so much so that on way back to Nairobi, we asked him to buy it for souvenir. When he stopped at a local vegetable market for his shopping, he left us in the car and locked it. It was excited and a good experience to see the local markets and people, observe him negociating with them. But we were surrounded by many many farmers in the car, and one guy who staring at me and my belongings found the bisckets seen from tiny slit of my backpack, and asked it to me again and again. I just tried to ignore him but it was very scary he even tried to open the window. Another good experience with him is, he drove a rather quiet highland route to the Great Rift Valley, along the way, we saw the local people carrying milking can in a foggy morning, it's a kind of dream-like atmosphere. The road from Nakuru to Nairobi, he took a different route which we could see green house and tea plantations. We have been to the Great Rift Valley three times with guide so far and he is the only one who reffered the history of the Great Rift Valley. Our accommodation was MatFam Resort. The staff are all nice, the room is not big but clean and tidy, the food was good. The problem was we didn't have hot water. FYI, amenity is soap only, one local TV channel, no tea&coffee facility in the room.

Thank you Masahiroi for sharing such a great experience on our page. Surely it tells it all about the safari you enjoyed with us here in Kenya.
