Description

Join us on a journey through layers of history in which you'll uncover both the iconic and the unseen sides of the Eternal City. We will start from the eerie Capuchin Crypt, where art and bones meet in a haunting tribute. Then we will venture beneath a modern mall to discover a stretch of the ancient Aqua Virgo aqueduct (made in 19 BC!) still active to this day, and we will follow its waters to the iconic Trevi Fountain. Later, we will stroll through the alleys of Rome to reach the Pantheon, the best-preserved pagan temple of ancient Rome. To conclude our journey we will set foot in the Piazza Navona, an unforgettable piece of astonishing Baroque beauty. This tour is more than a checklist, IT’s a deep dive into Rome’s visible glory and invisible past. With a passionate local guide, you’ll experience a balance of must-see landmarks and off-the-beaten-path discoveries, all within walking distance. We will accompany you in the visit of the crypt of the Capuchin Friars : a cemetery of the friars who, in respect of their beliefs, made fun of the human remains of their brothers, making with bones chandeliers and furnishings, as evidence that the material aspect of an individual is not important, but the spiritual one.

20 min

We will show you the hidden aqueduct that still carries water to Trevi Fountain: the Virgin Aqueduct, built in 19 BC! But to find it you will have to go underground with us, into the bowels of a luxury shopping mall.

20 min

You will then visit the most famous fountain in the world: Trevi Fountain. Here you can take an iconic photo and discover some bizarre events that took place at the Trevi Fountain.

20 min

You will have the opportunity to admire from the outside one of the oldest and well maintained monuments in Rome: the Patheon. Think that the dome is the original one, built in 27 BC and also the bronze door is the one from Roman times. In addition, here our Guide will also reveal the history of a place often unknown to the Romans themselves, which will surprise you with the events that took place there!

20 min

Finally, you will visit the most beautiful square in the city: Piazza Navona. The Romans still quarrel about whether this or the Spanish Steps is better, but here you'll have the chance to admire the legendary "Found of the Four Rivers" erected by the famous seventeenth-century artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. In addition, our Guide will also reveal the hidden meanings of this monument also known for its role in the movie "Angels and Demons", and then let you discover what has been hidden under Piazza Navona since the distant time of the ancient Romans.

Not the underground you might expect

Giuseppe was a great guide. The crypts were inside a museum and the aqueduct inside a shopping mall!! Not what I expected but still a great tour. Very unique experience and we saw a part of the party of the city we had not been in.

Amazing

Giuseppe was amazing. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. We truly loved our interaction with him. The tour was a bit long for us, as we’d done a long tour just before it, but we truly loved Giuseppe.

Thank you very much.

Tour guide didn’t turn up

Arrived 45 minutes early at correct meeting point. After 55 minutes tried to contact operator by web chat and got no response. Rang Viator. After about 20 mins or so on the phone it was established that tour guide didn’t know it was booked. At least we got an immediate refund! Big shame as wasted a lot of time on our short trip to Rome.

Operator response

Robert I beg your pardon, you are absolutely right. But the problem was that there was a misunderstanding between the management that collects the reservations and the assignment to the guide. When you tried to contact us, I was in hospital with my wife having an accident and I could not do more, at that moment, than make you an immediate refund. Sorry for the unnecessary waiting time. If you are in Rome, or when you return, it will be my pleasure to give you a tour to apologize for the inconvenience. Marco.

Highly recommended

Riccardo was excellent - we got a personalized tour, he is very knowledgeable and passionate about his home city. He took time to explain a lot of things, and he was patient with my mom's walking pace, as we covered enough steps to make us lose a kilo or two!!! Just kidding about weight loss - but the tour was great... Highly recommended with caveat - bring your walking shoes!!!

Great tour

Riccardo was a great guide, thankyou! He made the tour more interesting than the standard and we learned a great deal about lesser known sites of Rome.
