We saw it from a distance from the ledge. Built on the old lighthouse it dominates superbly. Built in 1477 it was an important square of the city. Very nice visit on several levels giving nice views of the city. The terrace is just as nice. Must see.
Incredible views from this mosque/fort; a few floors (steep, uneven, stone steps) offer a maze of small rooms, hallways with small windows, a couple of nice marble floor designs. No formal tours.

No guidance. Well kept fortress. Tickets only by credit card. Nice place to take photos. Best time to visit at sunset. Surrounding area is mainly a parking lot.
Historic fortress located in Mediterranean sea built in 1477AD to protect city. It is one of amazing attractions places in Alex
Today we drove from Cairo to Alexandria with Hassan Sadaqa. We were on the road for about 2 hours. Traveling with Hassan was fun as always. He is a good driver and a great tour guide. Thank you very much Hassan and stay the way you are Best regards
The citadel is constructed over the erstwhile Alexandria Lighthouse that was destroyed many years ago. It has fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea that surrounds the castle from 3 sides. The structure from inside has limited view spots. It’s the outside turret walls that offer great views of the sea and Alexandria city. There is ample parking outside at a nominal fee. The corniche at Alexandria becomes quite crowded with double parking etc. So factor that additional time to manoeuvre the crazy traffic. The Library is on the other side of the corniche so one cannot avoid this traffic to visit both the sites.
Wonder place, You feel the greatness of history, from the inside it has beautiful passages, its location inside the sea is very special
The Qaitbay Citadel was built by Sultan Qaitbay around 1477 AD on the Mediterranean Sea Coast . It protected Alexandria from marauders attempting to gain access to the city by sea to the Eastern Harbor area.
The citadel's amazing architecture, and panoramic views of the sea, make it an enjoyable destination for all ages. However, there are five tips to keep in mind: - To fully understand the historical significance of the Qaitbay Citadel, you should hire a professional tour guide as this will provide you with valuable insights. - The Qaitbay Citadel can get crowded, to avoid large crowds and enjoy a more serene experience, consider visiting it in the early morning. This will give you a better chance to appreciate the architecture and take beautiful photographs without too many people in the background. - Don't rush through your visit; take some time to soak in the beautiful panorama and enjoy the sea breeze. There are also several vantage points and rooftop areas within the citadel that provide fantastic photo opportunities.
This is one of my favorite places that we saw. It is beautiful and has even more beautiful views. Be prepared; the steps are strenuous! You can take a much or as little time as you like to walk through it. About 45 minutes is probably ideal. Really pretty place to visit.
