Rome Super Local Street Food Tour in Old Monteverde Neighborhood

Description
Taste the authentic flavors of Rome in the local neighborhood of Old Monteverde, away from the tourist crowds. This food tour takes place in a neighborhood where tourists don't venture to: Monteverde, the neighborhood where we ourselves live, eat and shop everyday! This means the quality of the food is much higher that a touristy neighborhood. All the local businesses where we'll stop are family-run businesses since generations. Not only we'll taste great food, but we'll also get to learn the families' stories.

Itinerary
The meeting point of this food tour is by the church of Santa Maria Regina Pacis. Your guide will meet you with the sign of our company name on the sidewalk by the entrance of the church in via Barrili 76-78.
We'll start with a typical Roman breakfast with cappuccino and maritozzo. Have you ever heard of it before? You won't forget it after this tour ;) This pastry shop is being run from the same family since three generations!
We'll then walk to the local market, only frequented by locals. This is where you'll learn all the unwritten rules of how the Romans choose their fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Here we'll taste the freshness of the Roman countryside (after eating lots of pizza and pasta during your Italy trip, you'll appreciate some fresh fruits!).
After the market, we'll head to the local deli. This deli is today ran by two brothers who are continuing the family business their father and uncle started in the 1960s. The brother will prepare for us a special selection of hams and cheese from the Roman countryside, together with a glass of wine. Here you'll also learn about the ingredients that are part of the most popular Roman dishes, such as carbonara and amatriciana.
Next we'll go to the local bakery. This bakery is so local that it doesn't even have a sign outside! But here you'll always find a queue of locals buying their bread. This bakery is run by Alessia, who continued the business her grandpa started here after WW2 ended. Since then, the bakery hasn't changed a thing. In this bakery you'll taste a must-try of the Roman street food: pizza rossa! This is not the pizza you'll find in the restaurants, but the pizza from the bakery, that kids bring to school for their lunch breaks. And adults like to eat while walking to their errands, or for a quick break in the morning. A pizza that most tourists tend to overlook, but that is so worth trying!
Last but not least, gelato! You'll taste our favorite gelato and you'll learn how to recognize the signs of a good gelato on your own, even after this tour. You'll also get to see the laboratory where gelato is made.

Brilliant local food tour in a proud working Roman neighbourhood. Guide was lovely and gave lots of information and local tips. Shop owners engaging and enjoyed sharing their produce. Plenty of beautiful food and some drinks along the 5 stops. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic food tour rather than the ones where the next group is hot on your heels. Thank you for a great morning.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such beautiful words! ππΌ We're so happy you enjoyed the food tour in our neighborhood! π
Excellent tour of less travelled neighbourhood , but typical Rome. Capacino and sweets, charcuterie and wine, Roma pizza Rosso and Gelato. I would come back
Thank you so much! We're super happy you enjoyed the food tour in our neighborhood π We hope to see you real soon next time!
Fredrika is amazing!! She is very enthusiastic about her tour.s. The best part of this one was seeing places that the average tourist never sees. The food was delicious which included Italian sweet and savory breakfast dishes and ended with gelato. I highly recommend this company. Thank you for an amazing experience.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're so happy you enjoyed the food tour with Federica ππ
We had the absolute best time on our food tour in Monteverde with Frederica. From the moment we met her, it was obvious she truly loves her neighborhood and that made all the difference. Every stop on the tour felt like stepping into a local gem we never wouldβve found on our own. She walked us from place to place she personally handpicked. At the daily market, we visited a tiny produce stand where they made fresh-squeezed juice with carrot, apple, and other amazing flavors. We even ended up meeting a famous artist who lives in the neighborhood. Then we stopped at a deli for Chianti and a spread of sliced meats and cheeses, and the way each shop greeted her like they see her every day which made us feel like we were getting a true insiderβs experience. Our kids stayed engaged and excited the entire time, which is saying something. The rhythm of the tour was perfect: relaxed, authentic, and full of stories. Somehow all the noise and crowds of Rome disappeared, and it felt like we were just wandering from one great moment to the next while learning about the area, the history, even Julius Caesar. This was some of the best money we spent on our trip. Truly worth every euro. If we ever return to Rome, I would book every one of their tours, without hesitation. It was that good.
I follow this company on Instagram and wondered if the experience would be as good in real life. Well let me tell you it was EVEN BETTER than on Instagram. Our guide was the beautiful Frederica. From the moment we met she made us all feel like old friends catching up to spend a morning together. Federica took us to places that have been run by families passed on to the next generations that keep up the traditions that they were raised with. It is the best value most authentic food walking tour that you could possibly do in Rome. It is out of the tourist area of Rome in the area Federica grew up in - Monte Verde. It is very easy to get to by bus from Rome or an inexpensive taxi ride if you arenβt confident on pubic transport. I highly recommend this tour and would consider doing it again for the pure joy of the whole experience! One word of warning: DONβT EAT BEFORE THE TOUR!! There is so much deliciousness that you need plenty of room to enjoy every bite. Thank you Federica for a wonderful adventure!
Sometimes you follow things on social media that look amazing but sadly disappoint in person. Please note: This is NOT the case with Live Virtual Guide!!!! Federica is even more engaging in person than she is on Instagram. She immediately made us feel like friends hanging out together rather than being part of a tour. Sometimes in Rome you see huge groups of people following someone carrying an umbrella and wonder what if anything they get from that type of tour. But this tour is completely the opposite! Federica took us to amazing places filled with a real sense of community where we were made to feel extremely welcome. I canβt even begin to describe how delicious the food is. The only way you will know is to do this tour for yourself! I canβt recommend this tour highly enough. If you want an authentic Roman experience, please do this tour. But one warning. Go with an empty stomach to make room for all the tasty treats you are going to eat. Thanks again Federica for a beautiful experience. I canβt wait to do so another tour! Julie
Thank you so much Julie for taking the time to write such wonderful words! π𧑠You made our day!
My daughter and I went on the walking food tour and was great! Frederica was our guide. She was knowledgeable about the area and the history, and was very kind. We enjoyed the tour, and the food was abundant. Thank you
Frederica is an excellent guide. You really have to go where the locals go to discover good Italian food. I enjoyed seeing a different side of Rome while in Monteverde.
Frederica is awesome. She took us where the locals go and showed us a different part of the city where we would have never ventured. We visited a variety of family owned establishments. She was very knowledgeable with a great personality. Highly recommend this tour!
Our walking food tour through a non-touristy neighborhood was led by an amazing guide who was personable and very informative! We started with a local breakfast of fluffy pastry and cappuccino then walked through a real neighborhood market meeting the owners of a multigenerational produce stand and store to taste their homemade fruit juices, followed by a deli where we tasted many deli meats and cheeses with a bit of wine, then a very local bakery for a special type of pizza and finally the most delicious gelato. We are stuffed and very happy to imagine life in a Roman neighborhood. This was a fun start to our Roman vacation.
