15 min

Our driver will meet you at your hotel, at 08:00 hrs, and will depart for Mystras, following the highway to Peloponnese. After about 1 hour drive, we will reach the Corinth Canal, where we will make a short stop for rest and taking pictures. Its iron bridge was the only road entrance to Peloponnese until the new Rio-Antirrio bridge (almost an hour and a half drive to the east) opened in August 2004. Mid-range cruisers and smaller ships still use the narrow canal to cross from the Aegean Sea to the Ionian sea, so that they cut short their long trips.

A Greek Odyssey in 32 days

My partner and I have recently returned from a 32-Day Tailor-Made Tour of Greece Mainland and Islands. The itinerary was created by Private Tours Greece to see the UNESCO-listed archaeological and historical sites as well as many of the important museums. We could not have been happier with the result and with the staff in the head office. Fotini put together a detailed day-by-day itinerary that ticked all our boxes. Lia kept in touch with us during our trip to advise of any timing alterations and just to check up on us in general. We had a dedicated car and driver for our travels on the mainland and on Corfu. Panos was simply excellent … a safe, courteous and considerate driver … and a wonderful ‘unofficial’ tour guide as well. He would make helpful suggestions as to attractions not listed on the itinerary as well as providing restaurant recommendations for our evening meals. At every significant site we visited, an accredited guide was waiting for us. Without exception, their knowledge base, enthusiasm and language skills were outstanding. And at the end of every day, we were able to relax in wonderful lodgings (the Perianth Hotel in Athens and the resort in Mystras were our favourites). On most days there was also some spare time for individual exploration of the cities and towns we visited … interesting back streets, quirky shops and friendly cafes to get a Greek coffee! Our 32 days covered a lot of ground on the Peloponnese and mainland, as well as visiting Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete and Aegina. And we found the Greeks to be a warm, welcoming and friendly people. We would go back in a heartbeat and do it all over again if we could. And I would be very happy for Private Tours Greece to make the arrangements … and would certainly recommend them to family and friends if they were to think of a trip there. Their people, their attention to detail and the quality of their product is first class!

I had an AMAZING tour with Aggelos! I did a Solo tour to the major battle sites. The tour went at a great pace that I could take my time without feeling rushed. Also Aggelos is VERY knowledgeable about all the battles and was able to tell walk me through the history of the Greek and Persian war in a fun and exciting day. Big recommendation to anyone who enjoys ancient Greek history.
