Terrifying Experience with Kasr El Baroun Travel: Insults, Greed, and a Forced Review During a Private Tour

The Kasr El Baroun Travel company is terrible, they arrived late, the company staff insulted us because of our origin, they wanted to force us to visit overpriced stores, and they would not return us to the hotel until they confirmed that I gave them a perfect review. On this private tour I traveled with my children and adult parents, and we wanted to see at our leisure and enjoy the wonders of the Egyptian museum and explore the Citadel along with its impressive military museum, I even asked not to go to the Bazaar to spend more time seeing the treasures that these museums and historical sites house. Unfortunately, the driver started by arriving 30 minutes late, and then the driver limited our visit time at the Egyptian museum and the Citadel, trying to make us go to fake museums that are actually stores where they sell you at an overprice and the tour company charges a commission. I am a frequent traveler who has visited more than 100 countries, and this experience on this tour was chaotic. We refused at all times to change our objective and yet the driver insisted over and over again that we had to go to the "free museums", meaning overpriced shops, plus what more could a shop about Tutankhamun's treasures and all the artifacts from the Egyptian museum and the Citadel offer? Upon arriving at the Cairo museum the driver told us that we only had one hour and that if we were not at the meeting point within an hour, he would leave us stranded. After picking us up, he tried again to take us to more shops, we refused and went to the Citadel where we were also given an hour and upon returning to the vehicle, the driver insistently tried to take us to the shops in cahoots with the tour. At all times the head of the agency called the driver complaining about why we were not visiting the shops. We informed the driver of this tour that an elderly person in our family needed to go to the hotel to take some medicine, but he still insisted on taking us to the "museum" shops. The driver was on the phone talking to his boss in Arabic and coordinating an attempt to visit another of these shops. The driver mistakenly sent Arabic messages to my phone for his boss, which I translated and saw that they were insulting us for not agreeing to go to the shops that give him a commission. He referred to my family in a derogatory manner for our ethnic origin. It's a shame to travel from so far away so that greed doesn't allow you to enjoy the treasures that the Egyptian Museum and the Citadel hold. To top it off, the driver demanded that I put a perfect review of the tour and send him evidence to his phone. We were scared when we saw on my phone's GPS that we were only going around in circles through dark, not very nice alleys, and the driver did not take us to the hotel. All this, to gain time and insist that I send the perfect review of the tour. The children realized what was happening and were scared. I do not wish this feeling of being kidnapped in a foreign country on anyone. And I found out that I was not wrong when I translated the messages and insults that he mistakenly sent in Arabic to my phone. I recommend that you avoid the company Kasr El Baroun Travel.

Best way to soak up so much history from the Islamic part of Cairo

We wanted to see the other side of Cairo and learn about the rich Islamic history and buildings. Was able to find this great tour that combined a trip to Tahrir square Egyptian Museum and then off to Old Cairo. Hussein our driver picked us up on time at our hotel in really spacious and comfortable van. AC was on full blast which felt so good when we came back from the walking tours. Our guide Ehab was the consummate professional—so kind, knowledgeable, and kept ensuring we were happy with everything. Learned so much on this trip. The tour operator was willing to allow us to customize our tour a bit to see some extra spots that were not on the itinerary—I’m glad we were able to add to our tour and hit a few more stops while we were already out. Ehab was very considerate—allowed us to rest when we got tired from the walking and mid day sun and he got us some ice cold drinks which were very refreshing. All in all, we loved the tour, the guide, and the driver.
