The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greece capital Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period the temple -that included 104 colossal columns- was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.

The Panathenaic Stadium or Kallimarmaro is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. One of the main historic attractions of Athens,it is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble.A stadium was built on the site of a simple racecourse by the Athenian statesman Lykourgos (Lycurgus) c. 330 BC, primarily for the Panathenaic Games. The stadium was excavated in 1869 and hosted the Zappas Olympics in 1870 and 1875. After being refurbished, it hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896. It was used for various purposes in the 20th century and was once again used as an Olympic venue in 2004. It is the finishing point for the annual Athens Classic Marathon. It is also the last venue in Greece from where the Olympic flame handover ceremony to the host nation takes place.

Lycabettus hill also known as Lycabettos, Lykabettos or Lykavittos is a Cretaceous limestone hill in Athens, Greece at 300 meters (908 feet) above sea level. Pine trees cover its base, and at its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant.

One of the most unique experiences is the changing of the guards in Athens. The presidential guards or Evzones, guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Hellenic Parliament building around the clock, through the coldest winter night or hottest summer day. Evzones are an elite unit of the Greek army and it is a very high honour for a Greek guard to be selected as an Evzone

The Arch of Hadrian, most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate, is a monumental gateway resembling – in some respects – a Roman triumphal arch. It has been proposed that the arch was built to celebrate the adventus (arrival) of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and to honor him for his many benefactions to the city. There were two inscriptions on the arch, facing in opposite directions, naming both Theseus and Hadrian as founders of Athens

Immediately to the south of town and very close to the sea, a rare geological formation is to be found that gave the suburb its modern name: Lake Vouliagmeni ("Sunken Lake"), a small brackish-water lake fed by underground currents seeping through the mass of Mount Hymettus. Because of its constant and comfortable water temperature —at about 24ºCelsius the lake functions as a year-round spa.

An unforgettable tour.

We booked a Shore Excursion with Athens Limo company on our cruise arrival day back in Athens, with a pickup at the cruise port and drop-off at the airport. This was one of the most memorable tours on our entire trip. Dionisis met us at the cruise ship, helped us with the luggage, then suggested the best route for our tour. We toured in a super comfortable Mercedes-Benz van. All the places that Dionisis recommended were worth visiting, and the views were breathtaking. As Dionisis was telling us about all the places we visited and drove by, we learned some history, as well as some interesting facts of today's life in Greece. At the end of our tour, Dionisis brought us to a beautiful local family-owned restaurant for lunch, where we had an amazing meal. At the end of our tour, Dionisis brought us to the airport. During the tour, Dionisis was very accommodating, making good suggestions, and adjusting the itinerary to our interests and needs. This was a VIP level service, and we highly recommend Dionisis' company.
