45 min

Step into history and uncover the incredible story of the Mulberry Harbor, one of the most remarkable engineering feats of World War II. This temporary artificial port, built in the wake of the D-Day landings, played a pivotal role in the success of the Allied invasion. Picture the sheer scale of this operation: over 40,000 workers, 300 companies, and the staggering use of 600,000 tons of concrete, 30,000 tons of steel, and 1 million cubic meters of wood. Together, they created a complex network of floating docks, breakwaters, and causeways that enabled the rapid offloading of cargo and reinforcements onto the beaches. Today, you can witness the remnants of this harbor, a poignant testament to the ingenuity and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom.

45 min

Step onto the sands of Omaha Beach and feel the weight of history beneath your feet. This hauntingly beautiful stretch of coastline was the site of one of the most pivotal moments of World War II, where over 34,000 American soldiers landed on D-Day. Picture the chaos and courage of that day as Allied forces stormed the shore under relentless German fire from the bluffs above. Despite overwhelming odds, the bravery and determination of these soldiers turned the tide, securing a decisive victory. Today, as you walk along the serene shoreline, you can almost hear the echoes of that fateful battle. Omaha Beach is more than just a historic site—it’s a powerful tribute to the extraordinary sacrifice and resilience of those who fought for freedom.

Step into the Overlord Museum and immerse yourself in a deeply moving journey through the Battle of Normandy. Located just steps from Omaha Beach, this remarkable museum brings history to life with an extraordinary collection of artifacts, including Sherman tanks, German anti-aircraft guns, and personal belongings of the soldiers who fought here. Through life-size dioramas, evocative sound and light effects, and interactive displays, you’ll feel the intensity of the battle and gain a profound understanding of the courage and sacrifice of those who lived through it. Every object in the museum tells a story—a story of bravery, resilience, and the fight for freedom. As you explore, you’ll not only connect with the soldiers who fought on the front lines, but also with the civilians whose lives were forever changed by the war.

45 min

You’ll have the opportunity to savor the flavors of Normandy at a charming local restaurant in the port of Grandcamp-Maisy. Imagine regional specialties like creamy Camembert, galettes and the famous Norman apple tart, all while soaking in the authentic atmosphere of this picturesque harbor town, between Omaha and Utah Beaches. It’s the perfect way to refuel and immerse yourself in the local culture. (10-20 euros)

45 min

Pointe du Hoc stands as a powerful symbol of bravery and sacrifice, forever etched in the history of D-Day. This heavily fortified German stronghold, perched high above the Normandy coastline, was a critical strategic point during the invasion. Imagine the sheer audacity of the 2nd Ranger Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel James Rudder, as they faced what seemed like an impossible mission: scaling 100-foot cliffs under relentless enemy fire. Against all odds, they succeeded, neutralizing a battery of artillery guns that threatened the Allied landings below. Today, as you walk among the craters and bunkers that still scar the landscape, you can almost hear the echoes of that fateful day. Pointe du Hoc is more than a historic site—it’s a tribute to the extraordinary courage and determination of those who risked everything for freedom. Visiting here is not just a step back in time; it’s a chance to honor their legacy and feel the weight of their sacrifice.

45 min

Perched on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach in Colleville-sur-Mer, the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is a place of profound reverence and reflection. As you walk through this immaculately maintained sanctuary, you’ll be surrounded by the silent stories of 9,389 American soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Normandy. Stroll among the endless rows of white crosses and Stars of David, each one a poignant reminder of courage and loss. Pause at the Wall of the Missing, where the names of 1,557 soldiers who were never found are etched in stone, and let their stories resonate with you. This hallowed ground is more than a cemetery—it’s a powerful tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom. Visiting here is not just a journey through history; it’s an opportunity to honor their legacy and reflect on the cost of peace.

They Canceled on Us; Not Reliable

We were so excited about this tour, scheduled for October 11, 2025. We booked and paid in August, and four of us planned travel to Paris specifically for this event. We got up early on 10-11 to meet at the 7:00 am spot. We grew confused when the guide didn’t arrive. At that point, I checked my email and learned that the tour was canceled 2 days prior with no explanation. I was not constantly engaged with email, as we were on vacation. My cautionary tale is to be wary when using this TravelCurious group. This was further exacerbated by the fact that we booked through our Marriott Bonvoy account. Both entities failed to deliver on the activity. Neither entity was vigilant in confirming they made contact with me. An affirmatively received phone call, text, or WhatsApp message would’ve given us lead time to try to reschedule with another group.

Operator response

Please accept our deepest and most sincere apologies for the unacceptable experience you had with the cancellation of your tour on October 11th. We fully understand your frustration and disappointment, especially after you planned your trip around this event. You are absolutely right – relying on a single email for a last-minute cancellation was insufficient and caused a significant inconvenience for you and your group, wasting your valuable vacation time. To prevent this from ever happening again, we are immediately updating our notification procedures to include SMS and phone calls for all last-minute changes to confirmed bookings. Thank you for bringing this serious matter to our attention. Your feedback is crucial, and we are committed to learning from it.

The Normandy/DDay Beaches tour with the amazing Julian was my family of fives favorite part of our entire trip to France! My husband and I, and our 3 children, ages 7, 12, 15, had the most special, educational, enjoyable, and beautiful trip to Normandy with Julian as our guide and driver. The van was so comfortable and Julian made the trip so special. We are back home in New Jersey and I recommend to all my friends and family, to go to Normandy and book Julian as a guide. We loved everything about the tour...the radio announcements from DDay that Julian played in the van, to all the stops we made at the DDay beaches, the museum, the American cemetery, the yummy lunch, everything was fantastic. My family spent a week in Paris and two days in Disneyland Paris, and we all agree, the best part of our trip was our day in Normandy with Julian. Even my 7 year old daughter loved it so much. Julian is great with kids and adults, explaining everything and he is brilliant and engaging telling us about all things D-DAY and WWII. I highly recommend this tour and it was so memorable, my teenage sons were thanking me so much for finding it. They emailed their history teachers telling them about it. I want to go again, there is so much to see and Julian is the greatest guide!! Thank you Julian...you are the best!!!

Operator response

Dear Melissa, We are absolutely overjoyed to read your heartfelt review! Thank you for sharing how Julian made your family’s Normandy experience the highlight of your entire France trip—this is exactly why we do what we do. It warms our hearts to know that his passion for history, his engaging storytelling, and his ability to connect with all ages—from your 7-year-old daughter to your history-loving teens—created such meaningful memories. We’re thrilled that even lunch and logistics like the comfortable van added to your perfect day. Julian takes immense pride in making history come alive for families, and your kind words about his teaching style (and your sons’ emails to their history teachers!) have already been shared with him. Your recommendation to friends in New Jersey means the world to us. With deepest thanks from all of us for letting us be part of your family’s unforgettable journey through history. Warmest regards, The Overlord Experience Team

We had a very limited...

We had a very limited timeframe to experience the history of World War II in Normandy. Julian was our guide and did a great job, getting us from our hotel in Paris to Normandy and back while giving us a concise tour of the sites we wanted to see. If we could do it again, we would stay in Normandy for one night because there is just too much to see in one day especially when commuting from Paris. Would highly recommend Julian.

Operator response

You’re absolutely right—Normandy’s WWII sites are so rich in history ! And we’d be happy to tailor a longer itinerary for you if you ever return! It was a pleasure for Julian to guide you, and we really appreciate your kind recommendation. Wishing you wonderful travels ahead, and we hope to see you again for more discoveries in Normandy ! Five stars!

Julien did a fantastic job of educating us about Normandy, D-Day, and everything adjacent to these topics and locations. He works hard to tell the story with his own knowledge, maps, photos, and even audio clips of the time. He was prompt and made the long day a pleasure. Kudos to Julien and best of luck with the movies!

What a wonderful journey. I don’t think you need to be an American to be moved by history and monuments, let alone what’s left of the war itself so many years ago. Our guide, Julien, was wonderful. He is a wonderful storyteller and has clearly done his homework. If you are planning a trip to Normandy, this is the one for you.
