Mount Longonot National Park Day Hike

Description
Mount Longonot is a stratovolcano located in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, and its most unique feature is the thick forest that grows within its crater. This creates a striking and beautiful contrast between the steep, barren volcanic ridges and the lush greenery inside the crater. A Scenic Hiking Destination: The mountain is a popular spot for hiking, offering a challenging yet rewarding climb. Active Geothermal Activity: Despite being a dormant volcano (last erupted in the 1860s) there is evidence of active magma systems beneath the surface. A Home for Wildlife: The mountain's slopes and the forest within the crater are home to a variety of wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and various species of antelopes. The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, particularly for birds of prey like the Verreaux's Eagle and the Lammergeier.
