What an absolutely unbelievable day!! We were in Paris for our 2nd time and decided to do a day trip outside the city. The tour of Loire castles and the wine tasting were a highlight of our entire vacation. I cannot recommend this tour more highly. Cyrus was so friendly and knowledgeable.
False Advertising! Our excursion with this company occurred on April 6, 2023 We have called and emailed the company and Cyrus directly about this, and they have not responded. I am calling out to CLEWEL travel to reply to our review. We booked the "3 Loire Valley Castles Small-group by Minivan with Tickets & Wine Tasting" for over $1,500 It lists very clearly in the description several times a GUIDE is included. All the reviews speak of how great and knowledgeable the Guide was. We were not provided a GUIDE at all. When I asked our driver Alex to tell us about the castles he said "I am not a guide, I am a driver" He then told us he usually had a guide ride with him, but he did not have one today?! We paid for Guide, exactly as the listing mentioned several times. We emailed and called the company Clewel directly, asking for even a partial refund and they will not reply to us.
This review is about money and about another small group trip
Our guide was Rustam, he was very knowlegable of the castles and the area. He kept the trip very entertaining and provided us the history of each castle. It was amazing to see the top 3 castles in France.
Sirus was a great driver and guide. He worked well with our group. He was informative on each stop and made sure we focused on the best of eah castle. And the real winner was the winery. Our group loves wine and he took us to a small family owned vineyard with great wine and incredible prices. We highly recommend but I would avoid doing this on a Friday since traffic was heavy when we hit Paris on our return. This is a 13 hour experience but with several stops.
Our driver and guide, Cyrus G., was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history behind the three castles we were to see in the Loire Valley from the medievalist Ambrose castle to the most current Chenonceau (ladies castle). He shared 700 years of conflict, relationships and conquest which really brought our trip to life. The castles all had interesting architecture and something different to share regarding the historical periods represented. The stop for wine was lovely and we had a yuck hot lunch at Chenonceau Castle cafe. Worth the drive to have this Loire Valley experience!
