Description

Your tour begins with an introduction to pre-revolution France and the economic and political landscape that led to a great class clash between the clergy, the nobility, and the bourgeoisie. You will learn about the fall of Louis XVI and the dismantling of the Ancien Régime, explore the remains from the storming of Bastille, and hear about France's abolition of feudalism, and the subsequent stream of power conflicts that made France's history so bloody. On your way, you will discover one of Paris's most charming squares, the Place des Vosges, a luxurious mansion transformed into a prison during the Terror, and the streets where the Jewish community settled in, favoured by the religious freedom granted by the Republican convention. Helped by your professional guide, you will also hunt for hidden historical vestiges, such as a cannonball stuck in a building dating back to the Middle-Ages and remnants of Republican graffiti inside a church.

Excellent French Revolution walking tour

We were so impressed with our guide Florence - a true Parisian. Her articulate understanding of the history and details of the Revolution were superb. She intertwined multiple historical periods on the walk seamlessly. She navigated the Parisian alleys and boulevards with ease and allowed us to experience places we never would have been able to find or understand on our own. Because of her knowledge, we were able to see the connections across history all the way to the elections that were occurring while we were there. Thank you....

Be ready to learn a lot!

Chris really knew his stuff. We learned so much about the French Revolution which we hadn’t known or understood. I’ve read a lot about American history and knew the influence that France had on the American Revolution, but Chris really tied it all together. We all were also amazed at the positive contributions of Napoleon which we were never aware of. Only comment is Chris maintained a very brisk pace that was difficult for us to maintain. We all were pretty tired but learned a lot.
