Julius Caesar and the Emperors' Nighttime Stories

Description
For the first time, there is now a storytelling tour focused on the personal stories of the early Emperors of Rome. Take a stroll in downtown Rome and get ready to be blown away by the lives of the ancient Romans, their love stories, and their “peculiarities”! Hear about the assassination of Julius Caesar exactly where it happened. This is not only about Caesar, though. Besides him, there are 5 more mind-blowing Romans to talk about. For example, discover Marcus Agrippa and be amazed by his loyalty and friendship with the first Roman Emperor of Rome, Augustus. Of course, we didn’t forget characters like Emperor Nero and Hadrian. These Emperors, who were very opposite personalities, have their moment of glory on the tour. If you enjoy great historical stories from the past, don’t miss this unique opportunity and delve deep into the past.

Itinerary
On this walking tour you will see Largo Argentina sqaure, the site of the Assassination of Julius Caesar, then we continue on, walking by incredibly beautiful sites such as the Pantheon, Piazza di Pietra and the Mausoleum of Emperor Augustus, finishing in the end with Piazza del Popolo, which was two millennia ago the burial site of Emperor Nero
We walk by the Pantheon at night, where your tour guide will recount you the story of Marcus Agrippa, a man who in the 1st century BC managed to become the second most powerful man in the world
While in awe at these fascinating 2nd century AD ruins, the tour guide will tell you the story of Emperor Hadrian, one of the best Emperors in Rome's history
Here in this square, still endures the monumental 2nd century AD spiral column dedicated to Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The column shows a hand-carved spiral relief which from the bottom to the top, shows the most significant moments of his life
In this square you will admire the 1st century AD burial site of Emperor Augustus, his Mausoleum. Over here the tour guide will tell you of his family, focusing mainly on the life of his only child Julia. This woman had a very strong personality and she was a very independent type of woman for those days. This story is probably the climax of the tour, being unique and heart-breaking.
Piazza del Popolo represents the conclusion of the nighttime walking tour. In this square the tour guide will tell you of the incredible story of Emperor Nero, delving deep into his psychological profile, explaining his relationship with his mother Agrippina and how eventually Nero wanted to become an artist so bad, which lead him to be at the center of world attention.

Our tour was so entertaining and informative! Extraordinarily vivid stories, that kept our attention the whole time. I would definetely recommend tours with Massimo in general and, as I was especially interested in the story of Ceasar and other Roman rulers, this was just the perfect topic for me. Thank you so much for the great experience! We hope to enjoy another tour, when we'll be in Rome again.
Fantastic experience! Massimo was very knowledgeable, super passionate, and he shared unique anecdotes that you won't find in the usual history books. Walking through the alleys of the historic center with such an engaging narrative made everything magical. Perfect organization and timing managed very well. I highly recommend it to everyone!
This was hands-down the best tour experience we had in Italy among the four we did. Massimo is a brilliant story-teller and highly knowledgable about Roman history. We were initially skeptical about doing the Emperor's nighttime stories tour with our 7-year olds, since they are not yet interested in history. However, it turned out be the highlight of our trip. Massimo weaves together real historical narratives while walking through actual sites in the city, draws analogies with our modern world and uses humor to superb effect. I learned more about Roman history and personalities on this 2.5 hour tour than I have ever before. I am a casual reader of history and was disappointed with the less knowledgable guides from some of the bigger tour companies. However, Massimo's was exactly the sort of tour I was looking for: knowledgable, accessible and immensely fun. At multiple points, we asked Massimo deeper follow-up questions on the stories and he was not only thorough with his facts but deeply insightful about the times and ethos of ancient Roman society. At the end our tour, our only regret was that we did not do the Colosseum tour with Massimo. If you are visiting Rome, I would highly recommend booking with Storytelling Rome.
My mom and I had a great time on the Julius Caesar and the Emperors' Nighttime Stories tour last week. It began at 5 pm and lasted nearly three hours but really flew by. Massimo has a vibrant and friendly personality, which he uses to full effect along with his acting skills, sense of humor, and visual aids to recount all of the fascinating stories in a thoroughly engaging manner. Even though this was my mom's and my fourth time in Rome, we still learned a lot about the lives of the emperors and their families, and it was amazing to do so in the actual sites where they left their marks. There were only six of us on this tour, and the amount of walking was manageable for all ages. Both the start and end points are in very central locations with taxi stands available for those coming from further afield. This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and one we highly recommend to all with any level of interest in Ancient Rome. We'd love to take another tour with Massimo in the future! Grazie, Massimo!
This Julius Caesar walking tour was such a highlight of our trip. The guide brought ancient Rome to life in a way that felt engaging, easy to follow, and genuinely fun. Instead of just dates and names, the story of Julius Caesar unfolded right in front of us—politics, power struggles, betrayals, and all—while standing in the very places where history happened. The pacing was perfect, the storytelling was clear and captivating, and the guide did a great job connecting Caesar’s life to the wider context of Rome and the Republic. Even people in our group who aren’t usually history buffs were totally hooked. If you want a deeper understanding of Rome beyond the surface-level sights—and a memorable, immersive experience—I can’t recommend this tour enough. It made walking through the city feel meaningful and unforgettable.
I did several tours with Massimo and they were absolutely fantastic! This nighttime stories tour was a great way to learn, laugh, and see this beautiful city at night. I highly recommend it- you will not be disappointed! Also did a tour of Colosseum and Forum, as well as Vatican. Massimo is very knowledgeable and a wonderful storyteller! I will definitely do more tours with him whenever in Rome!
So I have been to Rome a few times and always toured on my own. This time, we hired Massimo. He took us to Basicilca San Clemente, the Forum, Colosseum, and Palatine Hill. I am a history buff so I appreciated his stories and knowledge as a native of Italy. He was engaging, thoughtful and very interesting! I could have listened to him all day!!!! I plan to go back to Rome and I will use him again for another tour. He is worth every penny! Thank you again Massimo for the best experience and most memorable part of my trip!
Massimo, our tour guide, was funny and engaging with just the right pacing. Lots of interesting stories of ancient Roman figures and their intriguing lives. Would highly recommend.
This tour was awesome. Massimo is a master storyteller who brought the Roman Emperors and their families to life, all while strolling through the Roman streets to sites that tied back to his intriguing stories. My son said it was the best tour we’d been on and I agree.
Massimo was brilliant! He was engaging, funny and very knowledgeable. Our teen son, who isn’t into history a lot, too really loved it. Highly recommended.
