Haunted Rome: Eternal City Night Walking Tour

Description
With over 2000 years of history, it’s no wonder that Rome is one of the most haunted places in Europe. On this Rome Ghost Tour, you’ll join a small group of curious thrill-seekers and set out to uncover the stories that refuse to stay buried. Equipped with your interactive Ghost Hunter Kit, you won’t just listen, you’ll learn how to recognise the signs and follow the clues to spot a ghost before it spots you. Your local guide will take you on a haunted walk of Rome's historic centre, stopping at places most people hurry past: a chapel decorated with human bones, a bridge once used to display the dead, and corners of the city where things didn’t end well… for anyone. Along the way, you’ll hear tales of murder, mystery, and revenge brought to life with vivid storytelling and eerie videos that'll make the past feel a little too close for comfort. Survive the night, and you’ll be rewarded with a Certificate of Survival. If you make it to the end of course.

Itinerary
Our meeting point is Campo de' Fiori, one of Rome's most famous piazzas. Nowadays it's known for lively bars and restaurants but many people have died on its very grounds, making it the perfect place to start our spooky adventure!
This square was once a hotspot for lavish parties hosted by the city’s wealthy elite...but with fortune comes a price.
Learn about the madonelles or “little madonnas” sprinkled along our route and their history as crime-stopping statues.
Ponte Sisto is the oldest bridge in Rome and harbours a gruesome past involving tragic accidents, power struggles, theft and of course, suspicious deaths.
Whatever you do, don’t drink from Rome’s deadliest fountain.
This 17th century church is decorated in human remains and serves as a reminder for all those who visit that death lurks at every corner.
Find out why this apartment block is one of the most haunted places in Rome.
Hear the scandalous stories surrounding this Spanish church, which are worthy of a telenovela.
This iconic building was once a former beauty shop which tells the story of when cosmetics can kill.
A charming house on an unsuspecting street tells the chilling story of Rome’s most infamous executioner “Mastro Titta.”
This bridge used to expose the bodies of the executed as a warning to sinners. Nowadays it’s surrounded by statues of angels and tells the story of the Cenci family and how they met their fatal end.

Great and fun tour. Mahn was exceptional and very pretty. I could listen to her stories all night. I did have a little trouble hearing at different points during the tour.
Great tour through the less conventional side of Rome, some great stories of the haunted corners of the city, well led and designed.
Amazing tour. Anna was a great storyteller and was very accommodating
Informative. Not too much walking and a little history mix. Would recommend for people’s first visit to Rome
Sorry to give a poor rating, which is based on how the trip was described rather than the evening itself. Our guide was very pleasant and able to give some interesting detail that we would not otherwise have known. But ghosts, murders and executions were hardly mentioned, so please don't suggest that this is a very spooky experience!
Antonio is an amazing guide. It was an unseasonably cold night but his interesting stories more than made up for the cold and windy weather. If you are in Rome and looking for an evening walking tour with history and stories, I highly recommend Antonio from Carepe diem tours. You won’t be disappointed.
We started the tour off after a very silly mistake on our part, whereby we went to the end point first. After a mad dash through the streets of Rome, and lots of communication from the company who organise the tours, we managed to reach the group at the second stop of the night. We were welcomed straight in and Maham, our guide, did not miss a beat after welcoming us into the fold. My group and I loved the tour, and Maham was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide, delivering anecdotes with the perfect amount humour or gravitas depending on what was required. It was interesting and enlightening, and my friends spent the rest of the visit reflecting on places or stories as we'd done this walk on the first night. This was my third visit (but not final) to the Eternal City and I will wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone asking for suggestions on a trip of their own. I would also suggest that you book the tour for your first night as it will give you ideas for smaller sights to see that are off the mainstream tourist itineraries. Thank you very Maham, you were fantastic!
Hi Symone, so glad everything worked out and you were able to join the tour! Maham will be thrilled to hear your kind words. Thanks for recommending the tour and sharing your experience!
We enjoyed it so much. We just regret we didn’t do it at the start of our trip. Mahom was super and we were highly entertained.
Thank you, Noel! We're thrilled you enjoyed the tour and Mahom’s entertaining guidance—it’s never too late for a ghostly adventure! 👻
Great time. Great stories and a fun time. Learned a lot about Rome and she was very knowledgeable about things to do in Rome as well
Thank you, Ariston! We’re thrilled you had a fun and informative time on the tour and enjoyed learning more about Rome.
Very knowledgeable guide. Took us to a number of different locations and told lots of interesting stories. We’ve been on some ghost tours elsewhere that have been a bit more atmospheric where this one was very factual but certainly lots of interesting info.
