Itinerary
Your Nile Holiday Driver / guide will pick you up from your hotel in Luxor for a fascinating excursion to Dendera Temple, one of Egypt’s best-preserved ancient sites. Dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love, joy, and happiness, the temple is located approximately 70 km north of Luxor on the west bank of the Nile near Qena.
The Temple of Hathor at Dendera is one of Egypt’s best-preserved temple complexes, enclosed by a massive mud-brick wall covering nearly 40,000 square meters. The site has a remarkable history spanning over two millennia, with construction and additions beginning in the Middle Kingdom and continuing through the Roman period. The present temple was largely built during the late Ptolemaic era under Ptolemy XII Auletes and later expanded by Roman emperors, including Tiberius. Dendera is renowned for its beautifully preserved astronomical ceiling and accessible rooftop, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can also admire the famous Dendera Zodiac, a remarkable bas-relief carving once located on the temple ceiling. Following recent restoration work, the vibrant original colors of the temple ceiling can now be appreciated after centuries of soot were carefully removed. After your visit, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Luxor.
