Day Trip to Wadi El-Hitan, Wadi El-Rayyan & Al Fayyom Oasis

An excursion and discovery planted in the middle of the great desert. Our guide Amhed takes us to this fantastic and huge spectacular place. We will visit the fossils up to number 17 and even further, 9 kms. The museum is very interesting with skeletons from millions of years and other animals. We end this extraordinary tour with a safari in the dunes and the beautiful oasis of el fayoum. There are not only pyramids to visit, there are deserts of fabulous places whose immensity and beauty leaves us admiring.

Islam and Ahmed were amazing. They made the most of every moment, asked my input, and honestly made it an amazing and super memorable day. I cannot say enough great things about them and this excursion. 100% must do and I’d highly recommend them for it.

The experience was great our guide Ahmed and the driver Ahmed ( best desert driver !!) were very helpfull and kind There has been a misanderstanding between TripAdvisor and the local Operator. They were sure that Lunch wasn't included and that was a problème because we booked thé Day with Lunch it was clearly specified in what is Included TripAdvisor should contact the Operator to clear things up.

Egypt Tailor Made Tours arranged our day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Wadi El Hitan, also known as Valley of Wales and to Fayoum Oasis and it's Magic Lake. ETMT headed by Mr. Walid Fathy is a thoroughly professional tour operator. Our trip was made memorable by our guide Mr. Ahmed Zaki, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. He is vastly experienced and has a great deal of knowledge about Egypt and it's history. These are must see places and we were able to understand the true essence of these places thanks to the wonderful narrative by Ahmed Zaki. He also asked our driver to take us for dune bashing which was a thrilling experience.

We had a good time visiting the whale valley. Beautiful place in the desert, a hike worth the while. The other two stops (lake qarun and wadi rayan) are absolutely underwhelming. A large body of water (x2) with a lot of garbage and filth. Nothing to see really. Our driver had a less then ideal driving style, so we bumped our heads quite a few times when racing through the potholes.

There are experiences that touch our soul deeply and are part of our history forever and this is one of them. I’m sure that won’t be the case for most people, because sensations and feelings are subjective and very much depend on our state of mind. But for me, it was unforgettable. I came to the place seeing a valley full of whale bones and left seeing the dry bed of an ocean miles and miles away from any water sign. It is wonderful to realize slowly that you walked 1 hour through the middle of the desert in a car and slowly glimpse the water marks in the rocks and realize that that dry, warm and lifeless place was once a place where whales (!!!!!!!), sea turtles, crabs, corals and all kinds of marine life floated and lived. It really renewed my soul and showed me that the theory of evolution is beautiful and infallible. Sensational, I strongly indicate the walk.

By all means impressive. UNESCO has helped supervise the building of a museum with a video overview of the history of location and it is a must watch. The small museum is also worth visiting besides the whales and reptiles skeletons on the walking tour which is a must see as well. It is a world heritage location preserved under the UNESCO supervision and well worth the visit.

We had an issue with the 4 wheel drive that was to be used for this trip (no seat belts, no air con, 4 uncomfortable side located seats) but the guide was more than happy to take us in his own car and have the vehicle tag along in case we got stuck in the sand. Indeed, our guide was very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. The places we visited were wonderful, especially the fossil site. It was great to get out of Cairo and see more of the surrounding countryside.
