The Citadel was built on a promontory beneath the Muqattam Hills, a setting that made it difficult to attack. There have been three major construction periods leading to the Citadel's current form: 12th-century Ayyubid (starting with Saladin), 14th-century Mamluk (under al-Nasir Muhammad), and in the 19th century under Muhammad Ali
The permanent collection is divided into two separate regions, one chronological the other thematic. The chronological areas will be the following: Archaic, Pharaonic, Greco-Roman, Coptic, Medieval, Islamic, modern and contemporary. The thematic areas will be the following: Dawn of Civilization, The Nile, Writing, State and Society, Material Culture, Beliefs and Thinking and the Gallery of Royal Mummies. UNESCO provided technical help to the museum. The collections was taken from other Egyptian museums such as the Egyptian Museum, the Coptic Museum, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Manial Palace and Museum in Cairo, and the Royal Jewelry Museum in Alexandria. On 3 April 2021, the museum was officially opened, right before the moving of 22 mummies, including 18 kings and four queens, from the Egyptian Museum in an event termed the Pharaohs' Golden Parade.
Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church is traditionally believed to have been built on the spot where the Holy Family, Joseph, Mary and the infant Jesus Christ, rested at the end of their journey into Egypt. They may have lived here while Joseph worked at the fortress. The church is of significant historical importance, and in fact, it is where many patriarchs of the Coptic Church were elected

Our Egyptionologist Dena was absolutely a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and gave us all the information. Since we had already visited the Civilization museum she took us to the Cairo tower.
A truly wonderful experience thanks to Dena our very knowledgeable tour guide. She is an awesone guide taking time to explain every thing about theCitadel, Mosque and the churches. We had already visited the Civilizaion museum as such Dena was accomodative enough to take us to theCairo tower and show us around . The Muhammwd Ali museum is beautiful. The hanging church is very special, and it was a good experience to see the Cave church .

Mario was my guide and driver for a full day exploring Cairo, and he was fantastic. He picked me up from my hotel and took me to the Citadel of Salah al-Din, where I visited the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, also known as the Alabaster Mosque. The architecture and views from the Citadel were excellent. From there, we went to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), which offers a rich and interesting journey through Egypt’s history. All the way from prehistoric times to the modern era. The Royal Mummies Hall was especially impressive. We also explored Coptic Cairo, where I visited historic churches and learned more about Egypt’s Christian heritage. Mario was helpful every step of the way, making sure I was comfortable and never rushed. His calm demeanor and knowledge made the day both relaxing and enriching. Isaac and Mario were respectful, trustworthy, and focused entirely on making my experience great. I’ll definitely be returning to Egypt and when I do, I’ll be using their services again without hesitation.
Gina was our guide for a wonderful day in The Coptic Quarter and the NMEC. She was so knowledgeable and had an engaging way of telling the story of Egypt and walking us through all that we saw. We never felt rushed and she accommodated all that we wanted to do. And she added some special visits to some great shops and restaurants. Our driver was also amazing. Highly recommend!
Mario took us from our hotel to the museum. Very nice museum with lots of Royal mummies to admire. From queen Nefertari to Ramses II. We enjoyed it so much. Mario waited for us until we finished the visit and took us back safely to our hotel. We highly recommend Twitter egypt travel. Our experiences with them were extremely pleasant and hassle free. We visited all the assigned places and enjoyed the sights. However, without lunch the trip was over in5.5 hrs. We were in 2 minds about visiting the oil factory but at the outset we felt we were under no obligation to buy. The presentation was fair, presenter a little diff to understand. In conclusion, we agreed to buy a 2oz bottle as we only have carry on ($40) but the saleswoman and our guide argued with us about fluid carryon requirements and strongly suggested we purchase a suitcase to carry oils home! It was a little aggressive and unnecessary and laughably ridiculous and spoiled the tone of the whole day.
This was a great tour of Old Cairo, The Hanging Church, the Mosques and the Civilization Museum. We received Confirmation of the booking right away, and they were there to pick us up promptly at the correct time. Guide was very knowledgeable and made our experience one to remember!
