The site served both religious and educational purposes, making it vital to understanding the culture of Sparta.

Great Tour at My Own Pace

I had a great driver who took me to every location and let me see everything to my heart's content. As a Byzantine history fan I spent more time at Mystras than most but was still able to see everything else too.

Kostas is a TEN!

Have you ever gone on one of those cheesy city tours? You know the ones — where some guy tries to wax poetic about how that Pottery Barn used to be a shoe store, and before that it was… something else? Yeah, those. Well, if you have… stick around — because this review is NOT that. Kostas doesn’t do “rehearsed.” He doesn’t shuffle you from landmark to landmark like cattle to slaughter. He drives you into the soul of the place. One minute you’re standing where Spartan warriors once sharpened their swords, the next you’re sipping lemonade in some tucked-away café you’d never find on your own — the kind of spot where the view makes you forget you even own a phone. You reach for nothing other than more time. More time to sit and be surrounded by antiquity and lore. He knows the roads like they’re family. Knows which bend in the mountain will make you gasp, which turn will drop you into a postcard. And the man knows food — not the tourist-trap, “best gyro in town” neon-sign kind of food, but the kind a Greek grandmother would make if she adopted you for the afternoon. Kostas doesn’t just take you to Sparta and Mystras. He takes you into them. By the end, you’re not just grateful for the ride — you’re wishing the road never ended. The man is not a tour guide; he's a friend with a stop watch through history and time — and he gifts it to you in heaps. If you're looking for the road less traveled, Kostas knows exactly why that road is boring, and hell take you to the one you never even knew existed. And while you're there, he'll let his beautiful land do the talking.

Operator response

Your words left us truly speechless. What you described is exactly the kind of experience we hope every traveler has with us — authentic, personal, and far beyond the standard “checklist” tour. Kostas will be overjoyed to know that his passion for history, his love of Greece, and his eye for those hidden, soul-stirring spots made such an impact on your day. It’s clear from your review that you embraced not only the landmarks but also the spirit of the journey — from the ancient stones of Sparta and Mystras to the quiet moments over homemade food in places off the beaten path. That’s the Greece we love sharing, and it means the world to know you felt it so deeply. Thank you for taking the time to write such a vivid and heartfelt account of your experience. We hope the “road that never ends” will bring you back to Greece one day — and when it does, we’ll be ready to welcome you again with more history, hidden gems, and maybe a few more of those breathtaking bends in the road.

Best Experience of a Tour Ever

This was our first private/driving tour, and we were blown away with how professional and amazing this day was. I found this trip on Viator initially, and it fit the trip we were hoping to take from Athens, but it had no reviews. We checked on Trip Advisor and saw that the company did have some reviews, all of which were positive, so we took a chance and are so happy we did - I wish I booked on Viator so I could add some reviews in there to help others. Ahead of the trip, I reached out and contacted the company to see if we could extend the trip to see another part that wasn't on the itinerary - the responses were all very timely and extremely helpful, as well as easy to plan out. It was easy to add in an extra stop from a small charge, which was decided to be paid for on the day of IF we needed it, I liked that the extra charge wasn't asked for ahead of time. I suggest reaching out to the company before you book as well, trust me. The driver was extremely professional, on time, the car was spotless, he had suggestions if we wanted them but also let us stay silent if we were feeling tired. We went over the itinerary at the beginning to confirm that we'd see everything we wanted to see, and kept checking throughout the day. It was very helpful to have someone who was familiar with the area to make the most of our time and not need the mental load of planning out each spot. There also seems to be some unwritten rules of the road that we'd never know about if we had done this trip on our own, lol. The Corinth Canal is quite a wonder to see, although it's quick. Mystras was amazing - not a lot of signage along the way, we missed some parts on our way down and I wish we had spent more time there (that was on us, there was no pressure from the driver), but we knew we had more to see. If anything, I might have got a guide to bring us around that area if we did this again, but it was still neat to explore on our own!! We visited Sparta after, the archaeological site doesn't have much to it, but there was some family here that we briefly visited. Then we explored a town outside of Sparta after (again, family), and although that was a new area the driver was again extremely helpful in locating areas that we wanted to see and only had pictures of. Now we feel spoiled and literally only want to do private tours from here out, group tours are very rushed - but it was so nice to set our own pace, and I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed the winding roads on the way up to the top of Mystras in a bus, I struggled as is in a car (no fault of the driver, I'm very prone to motion sickness lol). Would recommend this trip to anyone!!

Operator response

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review — it truly means a lot to us. We’re beyond glad that your first private tour experience was such a memorable one, and that our team could make it smooth, flexible, and enjoyable from start to finish. We understand how important those early planning steps are, so it’s great to hear that our communication and adaptability made a difference. Your note about reaching out before booking is spot-on — we always aim to tailor each experience to our guests’ interests, and direct contact helps us do just that. Your kind words about our driver’s professionalism, the spotless vehicle, and the thoughtful pace of the day really touched us. We're also happy we could support you in exploring family-related areas off the typical route — that's the beauty of private tours, after all. Thank you again for trusting us, especially when there weren’t many reviews on Viator. You’ve not only helped others by sharing your experience here, but also motivated us to keep offering our very best. Wishing you many more incredible travel memories ahead — and of course, we’d love to welcome you back anytime!
