The Original Camp

The Original Camp is where I stayed. The people who own this establishment were very accomodating, friendly. The huts where we slept however needed a bit of an upgrade. The rooms need a woman's touch. They need to let it be known to bring your own face cloths, soap, however I did have mines. I would go back in the Summer time. I was there earlier this month, a little chilly.

Not worth the money

This by no means a Luxury accommodation, the transport van to pick and drop from our hotel was not like the one you expect from Professional tour operators, tired and dirty, had almost flat tires , so it could not climb the hill on unpaved road because of worn out rear tires, driver has to back up a bit and come on fast speed to get over the hill, the drivers had no English communication, he confirmed pick just 15 minutes before scheduled time despite my messages to camp manager, not professional, the tent shower do not have hot water, I could not take a shower, bed and bedding was comfortable and good, heating in tent was good, dinner served was simple but delicious, hafssa and chicken, on the check out they moved the van to other side of camp with no communication and we have to walk all the way there in pouring rain, camp has no umbrellas for the guests, had to go through Contstruction area with almost a meter drop step, totally unsafe, my wife had to sit down to get over the step with her clothes ruined in mud. Totally not worth the money they charge by calling it a “Luxury “ experience, we paid almost $100US per person, pick up from Marakesch at 4 pm drop off 11 am next day, you are better off to get a day trip including dinner and show in Agafy for around $30US. Will not recommend to others

Bad organisation

The organizer did not pick us up and dump us at the agreed location despite confirmed booking and valid ticket. Our New Year's Eve was totally ruined. This organizer is not recommended and not reputable!

Night in the agafay desert

We had a great time. They gave us a jaima that was very nice decorated and had air conditioning While we dined that by the way was all delicious, there was show with live music. Then after dinner, there was a fire show, very nice. There's quad, camel and buggy aside, all extra and an expensive hairpin, but it's worth it.

Great time with great hosts

We thoroughly enjoyed our night in the desert. The accommodations were nice, but the staff made it amazing. They were so friendly and helpful. I wish we had realized that we could book other activities like camel rides, atv, bikes etc. It looks like they are expanding and improving the pool area and the dining area. We had such a great experience. The food was very good and the entertainment was so much fun. The dancing went on until late and was a blast.

What a beautiful experience

The overnight luxury stay in the desert is certainly a must if you have the time to spare. We got picked up around 2:45pm and arrived about an hour later. The rooms are something else, how they set them up in the middle of nowhere is incredible. All of the amenities that you need are there, beautifully set up, decoration, shower’s, electrical sockets etc. The workers really do go above and beyond and work very hard for you. The food, the sunset, the stars, the pool, the entertainment are all incredible.

Avoid at all costs

This was one of the roughest experiences we’ve had with an operator - and we were told to leave the camp and that a full refund would be issued by the operator. Knowing it’s “original camp” on Google maps now…we know others have had similar experiences. In chronological order: - we were not able to get clear communication regarding pick up location and time for days before after many attempts. - when picked up (we were 6 people in my family); the driver tried to only let 2 of us get on, we insisted the whole group does. At the next stop, we understood why, they had overbooked the bus and had no space for other clients (2 women had to sit with the driver, and another client sat on the floor) - we had to take strange detours to avoid the police due to this, making the journey take double the time - when we arrived, we found out that that while we were 6 people and had expected 3 rooms, that they had decided that we would only get two rooms with double beds. We were not the only ones to have this happen. They had overbooked the camp. - when I asked where the other 2 would sleep, I was told by the owner, Hamid, tbat they were to be put in a “quadruple room”. When I asked to see the room, there was no such thing and it was apparent that they were attempting to source mattresses to put on the ground from other camps. - when speaking to the owner he began cursing at me in Arabic and claiming it means differently here (I’m a native speaker and this is not true). He then proceeded to insult my mother when she told him he was impolite to me. - he then started SHOUTING that we should leave and that a full refund would be issued. - the employees were not trying to calm the situation and apologise on the owner’s behalf, but he continued to scream at us and told us to leave. - he came up to me again when I was on the phone saying he wanted to apologise, when I asked to please give me 5 minutes to speak to him, he proceeded to scream that I was a terrible woman and used disgraceful language and tone. Hamid the owner is a terrifying and unprofessional man, who relies on the fact that foreigners don’t understand what he says. His own employees were trying to help us from him and said that this is his attitude all the time. Tawfik was one of those wonderful employees and helped us get transportation back to Marrakesh. Overall, we are glad we left when we did because the experience is an absolute scam and I would not recommend this to everyone. I’ve travelled in difficult places and dealt with colorful characters, but to have such chaos on New Year’s Eve was not something I wish for anyone. Additionally, the camp is in a very bad state, looks like a construction site and the rooms were not clean. We luckily hadn’t checked out of our accommodation and also managed to get a reservation for a lovely meal in Marrakesh. But this whole situation wasted an entire travel day and left a sour taste in our mouth. If I were a woman or group of women alone in that situation, I would have been terrified.

Just fantastic

Totally amazing experience. Highly recommend. First we were picked up at our hotel by Barek, our driver who was calm, professional and experienced. The thing you need to understand in Marrakech is… a good driver is a priceless treasure to navigate the madness of traffic in city and driving on no road leading to the desert. Upon our arrival we were met by experienced team of Berbers who were very helpful and amazing. The music, dancing, and of course the fire show performed by young and very talented Yassim. Not to be missed.

Overall a good experience, but ...

Overall the experience was good, however there is definitely room for improvement. By the time you arrive, there is very little time to enjoy the pool (water looked rather cloudy). There is a lot of building work (and consequent noise) around the site. The tents are spacious, though not very clean and there is too little water to have a proper shower. All the staff were very pleasant apart from one older guy who grunted when we approached him at the bar for a drink and told us to go back to our seats. He still looked surly and unfriendly the next morning at breakfast. The evening meal was good and plentiful though drinks are seriously expensive (30 euros for a bottle of mediocre wine). So, the trip was good overall but I hesitate to recommend as I feel it is overpriced and did not feel very authentic.
