Itinerary
Begin your experience of exploring Patagonia as soon as your cruise ship docks in Puerto Madryn. Meet us and board a comfortable-modern vehicle. Enjoy a brief tour of the city to learn about its history while heading to the Penguin Colony.
Our first stop is the replica of the Patagotitan Mayorum, the largest dinosaur in the world discovered to date. We will learn all about the past, when dinosaurs reigned over this region. We will take advantage of this stop to snap some photographs before hitting the road again, heading south.
Start the adventure accompanied by a tour guide who will help us interpret the environment. Keep an aye out, specially when driven along a barren gravel road, the reserve enclose unique species as Guanacos (Lamas), Patagonia Rabbit, Lesser Rhea, Grey Wolf, among others.
Punta Tombo is one of the most scenic reserves in the province of Chubut, blending the deep blue sea with the red volcanic rocks of the Jurassic period. There, we will immerse ourselves in the world of Magellanic Penguins along a 3-kilometer trail (round trip) to observe them and walk among them. If nature allows and we remain attentive to the landscape, we may spot wonderful Patagonian species such as Guanacos, Lesser Rheas (Choiques), Maras, and Elegant Crested Tinamous (Martinetas), among others. After completing the trail, you will have free time to enjoy lunch at 'DeliStore' or have a picnic if you have brought your own lunch or snacks. As we travel along the gravel roads, the safari continues overland, you might be admired by guanacos crossing the Patagonian landscape. After a day full of nature in its purest form, return to Puerto Madryn and get dropped off outside the pier on time.

Amazing tour. Highly recommend. Up close and personal with the penguins. It is a far drive, but worth it!

It was an excellent tour, thousands of penguins and plenty of time to spend interacting with them. Valerie, our guide was excellent..
Hello Jim & Pam! We´re glad to hear that you´ve enjoy your experience in Punta Tombo, thank you very much for choosing us! Best regards, Bianca
Punta Tombo Reserve is a very fabulous place. Our guide Mariano was excellent and highly recommend him. After visiting Volunteer Point in the Falklands, we had low expectations for this tour, however the sheer beauty of the reserve, the ability to watch the penguins up close was amazing. Also we were able to see them play and fish in the water. Other local animals and birds were also plentiful in the reserve. We were on a cruise ship, we were able to beat the numerous shore excursion buses and vans and had a very relaxed uncrowded experience
Thank you for your lovely comment! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the reserve so much and that you were able to see the penguins up close. We also love that the experience was peaceful and uncrowded. We will pass on your comments to Mariano, and thank you for choosing us for your excursion! We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Best regards, Bianca
We did this from a cruise ship and the communication was great with the tour operator (Dos Oceanos). Tour guide was easy to find at the end of the dock. The guide was very conscious about making sure we were back in time for the ship departure. The 2.5 hour drive (each way) was worth it. There were lots of penguins to see - they are everywhere. We also saw baby guanacos.
Thank you very much for choosing us; it was a pleasure to have you as passengers on our tour. We hope to see you again soon. Greetings from Patagonia! Bianca
This was a wonderful trip to see the penguins. It was much better to take this tour than the one offered by the cruise line. Much quicker to get there. We basically had a private tour. Not sure if that is always the case. Our guide was terrific.

Great experience, I would recommend going on this trip in December when more penguin are still there. We went on March 9, 2025 and most of the penguins were gone. Our driver was awesome and he gave use alot of Information about everything of the area.
Mark, thanks a lot for your review and helpful recommendation!
The penguins were amazing to see and watch. There are so many and so close to the walkway. Easy to photograph and video.
Atef, so glad you enjoyed the tour. Thanks a lot for choosing us!
Great tour to see penguins. Tour guide was great also. Only downside is that we waited for over an hour for 2 people that never came, so we had 1 less hour with the penguins. Taking into account that we only had 2 hours to see penguins, 1 hour would make a big difference. They could have a better system for people who do not show. But the tour itself was awesome.
Evandro, we really appreciate your review. We'll definitely use it to improve. Thanks a lot!
Our guide was waiting for us at the end of the pier. We thought we might be part of a small group but we’re delighted to discover it was just the two of us. The car was functional rather than luxurious bit we got to Punta Tombo ahead of the coach crowds which was a huge bonus. Our guide was knowledgable and fun. We had a great trip and saw thousands of penguins. At our request he dropped us back in town so we could explore before boarding the ship in plenty of time before we set sail. It’s a two hour drive across barren land to the nature reserve but worth it to be so close to the penguins and to learn all about them.
Clare and Alice, it was our pleasure to be part of your experience. Thanks for choosing us. See you soon!
