Meet at the bottom of York's Shambles by the railings of St. Crux Church, look for The Wizard Walk sign!
York's shortest street (with the longest name!), and a wonderfully whimsical place to set the scene for our enchanting walk around this spellbinding city!
We'll take a wand-er up York's most iconic street, and the most enchanting street in the world! We'll pass shops selling peculiar potions and wizarding wares as we begin our search for magical creatures... *When too busy, we'll venture up the adjacent Colliergate instead
Mad Alice Lane...we'd be mad not to stop here, as we search for that rare and mystical of birds...the Phoenix! Will this magnificent creature ruffle a few feathers, and what bird-brained magic will our wizard get up to next?
Candy is dandy, and so we'll stop near York Sweet Shop in search of our next magical creature! Got a sweet tooth? No time to snack, but can you help conjure a chocolate frog? Hop to it!
We'll walk in the shadows of York Minster, adorned with gargoyles, grotesques and all manner of peculiar creatures! We'll search for a rat from the city's plague era. Can a rat really do magic? And what 'tails' will be told next? Find out on this spellbinding tour!
Next on our list is a magical mouse! Find out all about carpenter Robert 'Mousey' Thompson and watch in wonder as your wizard guide transforms a simple handkerchief into a white mouse and then brings it to life.
Our Wizard Walk continues through the backstreets of Bedern, as we work through our list of magical creatures in search of an elusive owl. Expect plenty of surprises along the way, it's always a HOOT on The Wizard Walk of York!

Fantastic tour today with Phoenix! My kids really loved this, they’re 7 and 10. The Wizard was excellent with children and had them totally engaged instantly. My 7 year old is a hard audience as well! Both laughed and smiled throughout. Great experience, I’d highly recommend.
Jonathan, the guide, was exceptional. Fantastic with children and my sister, a special needs adult, also very funny with the adults, jokes and entertainment value…top marks… the best visitors attraction on our stay in York. We’ve been on a few attractions, most very good but he really was great 😊 👍 Thank you

We just did the walk today at York this afternoon with he who calls himself Phoenix and it was possibly one of the best travel experiences that we ever had. Yes, it’s a walk around York taking in the sights of The Shambles, Yorkminster and all those really cool winding roads but sad to say, they possibly are second to none to the guide, I mean, Wizard, who made it positively such a memorable time. It may be a children’s walk but trust me, the adults are all suitably entertained with the tear-able pun-ny jokes that any editor worth their salt would have long torn the joke book apart already, I laughed until sides ached and my daughter, I was so happy to see, had such a happy smile on her face. This is a must-go.
The tour is brilliant for families, the wizard was so engaging with the kids and was like the pied piper through the streets of York. My children (age 4 and 7) absolutely loved the stories, tricks and jokes. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is there was no information about York given to us. I was expecting to be told a bit about the city as we walked around which was a shame.
Hi Becky, and many magical thanks for your review - I'm so glad to hear how much The Wizard Walk was enjoyed. We're certainly not an educational or historical tour, and don't advertise the experience as this. There are lots of those in York, and we prefer to focus solely on unforgettable family fun. Adding in facts and figures would only make the tour too long for children - we like to keep things pacey and packed with magic moments and laughs aplenty!

The Wizard Walk of York was great! We went as a family including our boys (age 10 & 8), grandparents, parents & their Aunt - fun for all. A wonderfully engaging, funny tour guide with a fab sense of humour - our youngest especially, laughing & showing enjoyment throughout. We’ve been to York dozens of times over the years so interesting too, to see places/streets we’ve not explored before. Great value for a fun filled afternoon - thank you!
It was really good very entertaining, my child is 11 yrs and most of the other children were 6/8 yrs so very good for younger children but bit boring for my child he needed older stuff , I would definitely recommend for younger kids it was great, do it to keep the kids entertained and tired after the walk.. really good in my opinion
We enjoyed our Wizzard walk in York very entertained with the man with lots of fun Interraction with the children and adults would recommend this tour.
This had everything: funny jokes, unfunny jokes, gags, puns, magic and the sights of York. My kids aged 5 and 8 loved Phoenix the wizard and were thoroughly entertained. The grown ups enjoyed it too!
