We had a great day tour to Wilpattu National Park. Be prepared that it takes about 4 hours to get there from Colombo, but once you make it, the park is beautiful, and there are lots of animals and birds to see on the open air jeep safari. Our driver, Vidu, was very friendly and took good care of us along the drive to include stopping for local fruit, snacks and king coconut drinks. Our jeep safari guide was also great and pointed out all the animals in the park. We saw leopards, elephants, water buffalo, wild pigs, mongoose, crocodiles, monkeys, peacocks and many other pretty birds. We then had dinner at a local restaurant after the park, which was good before the long drive back. It was a really fun trip and worth the effort to get there. You just have to be prepared for a long day with a lot of driving time.
