Our local guide Mario gave us a wonderful overview of life in the Sassi. The visit to the Cave house and Rupestrian church was fascinating and informative. Our family of six with little one were well looked after. We walked past all the major viewing points, squares and churches which was an ideal introduction to Matera.
The guide Giuseppe is very knowledgeable and helpful. An experience that I highly recommend.
Great tour - just the right amount of time. Am really glad it was not a huge tour, it felt more intimate with time to ask questions. Bring lots of water if it’s hot out! Also, the tour agency doesn’t have a bathroom (or know if there is a bathroom nearby) so make sure to go well ahead of time.
We loved the experience and our guide Giuseppe was very experienced. Note 10!
What a beautiful experience! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Matera and the Sassi neighborhoods. The group size was only 6 people which I prefer over the large groups that take over entire city streets. (Also larger groups distrup the daily lives of locals). Would highly recommend this tour on your first night in town.
Excellent, precise, attentive, and well-prepared guide
Very nice experience. Cosimo was great guide so ask for him. He shared some of his personal life growing up in Matera. I highly recommend the tour instead of going alone and reading by yourself. Worth to get to know Matera.
Artificial intelligence will never surpass Giulio: a caption, a brochure, an audio guide, or anything else can provide information, data, news, but they cannot give you the added value of a guide who shows you Matera through the eyes of a Lucanian citizen. Problems of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, within an explanation of history, art history, notes on geology and literature. Done with two kids aged 5 and 9: they are used to hiking with us, but to stay good and follow the guide under the summer sun of Matera at 12:30... you need Giulio! And it must remain affordable for everyone, like the trip in question, because this is culture.
Excellent experience. Very well-prepared guide (Giulio) who was also available and very friendly
A beautiful experience, Mario is a knowledgeable and friendly guide.
