The Wētā Workshop Experience showcases the making of movie effects and props, from armour to weapons, creatures to costumes, make-up to miniatures. Meet your guide at the Wētā Cave store to begin your journey through the movie-magic world of Wētā Workshop! Explore props, costumes, and cool stuff From The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to Avatar and District 9: learn about props, costumes and creatures created for your favourite films. Interact with cool stuff from our creative departments and catch an artist at work on our tour stage.

Weta Workshop in Wellington completely exceeded my expectations. It was fascinating to discover all the meticulous work that goes on behind the scenes and to see the stunning, original props used in The Lord of the Rings up close. A truly magical and highly recommended experience!

The guide was so friendly, enthusiastic and informative. The content was fascinating and timing was good with enough hands on things to keep my 9 year old boy engaged. Really enjoyed it.

I went with a friend and my two young children. The tour was interesting and the kids were really engaged. My issue was with the artist (I believe her name was Janet) who made sculptures with aluminum foil. She was giving her spiel and my young daughter, who was very excited, tried to ask a question. Instead of politely asking my daughter to wait to ask a question, she rudely told my daughter to "chill." I was taken aback at her comment and attitude. I could tell it embarrassed my daughter. That soured the experience for me.

I really liked everything about the tour except for the speed. It was too rushed. Please allow more time for your guests to explore. Perhaps some insulation between the walls so you cannot hear the grouper before and after. Otherwise amazing!!!!

One of the highlights of my New Zealand road trip! I visited the Wētā Workshop Experience while traveling solo around New Zealand, and it was an unforgettable stop. Seeing the artistry that goes into creating props, costumes, creatures, and special effects was incredible. Every exhibit showcased an amazing level of creativity and craftsmanship, and I learned so much about how movie magic comes to life.
