Itinerary
Welcome to the first stop: Caldera de Bandama. This stunning volcanic crater, formed over 5,000 years ago, is one of Gran Canaria’s youngest and best-preserved geological formations.
At Pico de Bandama, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the island from one of its most iconic peaks. The panoramic vista offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the diverse landscapes of Gran Canaria, from rugged mountains to the Atlantic coastline. This stop sets the tone for understanding the natural and geological wonders you'll explore throughout the tour.
Arriving at Cruz de Tejeda, you'll experience a delightful blend of natural beauty and local culture. This high-altitude pass is not only a crossroads of ancient paths but also a hub for local artisans. Here, you'll have the chance to taste traditional Canarian delicacies and, if you wish, purchase some to take home. Additionally, you’ll enjoy incredible views of La Caldera de Tejeda, a collapsed basin that showcases the island's dramatic geological past, making this stop both a cultural and sensory highlight of the tour.
Embark on a hike to Roque Nublo, one of Gran Canaria’s most iconic natural Monument. The trail is approximately 3.5 kilometers round trip, with a moderate incline of around 200 meters. The hike is rated as moderately challenging, suitable for most fitness levels, though it requires a reasonable level of physical fitness due to the rocky terrain. From the top, you will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Sacred Mountains, which are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Conclude your tour at Pico de Las Nieves, the highest point on the island, where you’ll enjoy a serene sunset over the sea of clouds. This vantage point offers a breathtaking view of the island’s mountainous landscape, including the Caldera de Tirajana, an erosional basin, with the iconic silhouette of Teide in the distance further enhancing the majesty of the view. The peaceful ambiance and stunning scenery provide a perfect end to your day. It’s a moment to reflect on the natural wonders you’ve experienced throughout the tour.

Great Experience! A wonderful tour to learn more about the geology, the beautiful mountain area, the nature and food of Gran Canaria. The sunset from Pico de la Nieves is an unforgettable moment. Daniel is a very knowledgeable and nice guide as well as a reliable safe driver on the narrow, curvy roads in the night. Thank you so much!!!

We really enjoyed the day. Our guide Daylos was really informative & knowledgeable on the area. He made it a fun day. The local cuisine in the hill top restaurant was very nice but we especially enjoyed the climb to Roque Nublo. Daylos was really good in taking pictures for the group & knew the best spots! The sun set at the top of the hill was the cherry on the top. A nice touch with the toffee liqueur for everyone! All in all a fab day out.
Dear Louise, Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely review of our Volcano Heart Tour. We are delighted to hear that you had such a fabulous day and that Daylos helped make it both fun and memorable with his knowledge, great energy, and eye for the best photo spots. It is wonderful to know you enjoyed the local cuisine, the hike up to Roque Nublo, and especially that beautiful sunset moment at the top. We are also very happy that the little touch of toffee liqueur added something special to the experience. Your kind words truly mean a lot to us, and we are so pleased that the day became such a highlight of your trip. Warm regards, The Climbo Team
Volcanea – Volcano Heart Self-Guided Tour (via web app) I tried Volcanea’s new Volcano Heart Self-Guided Tour and honestly, it’s one of the smartest ways to explore Gran Canaria if you want freedom without missing the story behind what you’re seeing. The web app is super easy to use, the GPS guidance makes the route feel effortless, and the audio content genuinely feels like having a local guide with you (minus the schedules and group pace). We loved being able to stop whenever we wanted for viewpoints, short walks, photos, and coffee breaks, then just pick up the tour again when we felt like it. A big plus: it works great out in the mountains where coverage can be patchy, and the content goes beyond “fun facts” — geology, culture, nature, and practical tips that actually help on the road. Also worth mentioning: the first stop at Caldera de Bandama is free, so you can try it before committing. After that, it’s very hard not to want the full experience. If you’re the kind of traveler who likes independence but still wants a real, well-crafted narrative, Volcanea is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended.
Volcanea is a fantastic way to explore Gran Canaria independently without feeling like you’re missing the story behind what you’re seeing. The webapp is smooth, intuitive, and beautifully put together, and the first tour is genuinely impressive. The GPS guidance is reliable, the audio is engaging, and the stops feel carefully curated—volcanic landscapes, viewpoints, and local insights that make the island come alive. Perfect if you want total freedom, but still want a “local guide in your pocket.”
A very good experience with Volcanea. We started with the free first stop at Caldera de Bandama and we liked it so much that we decided to buy the full tour. Since we were driving our own car, we could go at our own pace without any rush. The videos and information provided at each stop are very interesting and everything is clearly explained. Our favorite part was ending the tour watching the sunset at Pico de Las Nieves. Highly recommended! 👌
I loved using Volcanea — it’s one of the best self-guided experiences I’ve tried. The webapp is easy to access, fast, and very user-friendly, even if you’re not particularly techy. The first tour is outstanding: it guides you step by step through Gran Canaria’s volcanic heart with smart GPS navigation, clear directions, and high-quality audio that keeps you hooked. What really surprised me was how much depth it adds to trip. It’s not just “go here, take a photo” — it explains the landscape, culture, and viewpoints in a way that makes every stop feel meaningful. You can pause whenever you want, take your time, grab a coffee, and continue when it suits you. If you like traveling at your own pace but still want expert storytelling, Volcanea is a must.
