Itinerary
The first stop will be in Veragua Rain Forest, the ultimate Costa Rica tourism attraction that offers everything you want to experience in the authentic rainforest! Enjoy a day of discovery and adventure in the wondrous 3,400-acre Veragua Rainforest mountain reserve which National Geographic Traveler called “The Cream of the Cream of the Rainforest”. Surrounded by 100% rainforest, the private reserve borders the spectacular La Amistad International Park (“Friendship International Park”), the largest nature reserve in Central America. Your tour includes interactive live exhibits of snakes, frogs, and butterflies in an unparalleled set up, walking trails and a real science station where you can see researchers discovering new species.
Often referred to as the "Amazon of Costa Rica," the Tortuguero Canals are one of the country’s most iconic natural attractions. This guided boat ride takes you through calm, narrow waterways surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, offering close-up views of local wildlife. With the help of your guide, you may spot sloths, howler monkeys, iguanas, caimans, and a wide variety of tropical birds. The boat is equipped with a roof, comfortable seats, and life jackets, making it a safe and relaxing experience for all ages.
As we drive through the heart of Puerto Limón, your guide will share engaging stories about the city’s history, culture, and Afro-Caribbean roots. You’ll pass landmarks like Parque Vargas, the Municipal Market, the Limon Cathedral, and neighborhoods that reflect the unique rhythm of this coastal city. It’s a panoramic and informative ride that brings the spirit of Limón to life.

Rain forest tour was very informative. Aerial tram was less impressive than we had anticipated. Had a private canal tour which was the highlight of the day with many animal sightings.
Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found the rainforest tour very informative and that the private canal tour was the highlight of your day—those close-up wildlife sightings truly make for a memorable experience. We appreciate your comments regarding the aerial tram as well; feedback like this helps us better manage expectations and continue improving how we present each activity. Thank you for choosing us for your day tour. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and tailor an experience that exceeds your expectations even more.
It is the most important thing to see in Puerto Colón. The girl who served us on the tour and the girl in the park, a charm both of us. Very happy with the experience and guides. We saw a sloth and her baby almost to touch.
We docked and guide and driver were waiting inside port as per our instructions with my name on placard. It came as a surprise that we had private guide and driver. They were both amazing: very polite and helpful throughout, always going the extra yard to ensure we had a great experience . The veragua rainforest is amazing although the road to and from it is like a farm track. We were taken down in gondola to bottom of gully and were taken around to see sloth, snakes, frogs etc ( beware if you have walking difficulties this may not be tour for you). We were then taken to see all indigenous snakes, frogs butterflies insects etc of Costa Rica. We were then taken to tortugena canal to see local wildlife where we had a very close up encounter with sloth climbing down to do a poo which apparently only happens weekly. Fantastic. Fr there we were taken on a quick tour of Puerto limon before being dropped off back at ship. Superb day out
Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review. We are delighted to hear that everything went smoothly from the moment you docked and that our guide and driver were waiting for you inside the port as instructed. We are especially pleased that the private nature of the tour was a pleasant surprise and that both team members provided attentive, polite, and proactive service throughout the day. It is wonderful to know that you enjoyed the Veragua Rainforest experience, the gondola ride, and the opportunity to observe Costa Rica’s wildlife up close, including sloths, snakes, frogs, butterflies, and insects. We appreciate you highlighting the walking conditions, as this information is very helpful for future travelers when choosing the right tour for their needs. The Tortuguero Canal wildlife encounter you described truly is a special moment, and we are glad you were able to witness such a rare and memorable experience. We are also happy that you enjoyed the brief tour of Puerto Limón before returning to the ship and that the overall day exceeded your expectations. Thank you once again for your kind words and recommendation. It was a pleasure to host you, and we hope to welcome you back to Costa Rica in the future.
Some highs and lows. Great driver (Alberto). Terrible road 15km of dirt/rocks road. Great guide Franny but no wildlife and too much waiting. Very crowded. No food available. Beautiful waterfall. Very expensive. We priced out entrance to the park and taxi and it was $200 less then what we paid. We felt a bit taken
Definitely not the experience I desired. Driver seemed unaware of the itinerary. We saw the rainforest and canals but no opportunity for lunch or grocery store purchase. Would not recommend.
Our tour with Syl Travel was great. They were there at the port and readily recognizable with their red shirts . Our guide was Enrique and he was the best. Had tons of information about Costa Rica and was happy to share with us.
Hello Debra Thank you so much for your review! I really appreciate it!
We docked Costa Rica on 12th March 2020 and decided to make our own arrangements. We were met on disembarking by many guides offering their excursions. Thankfully we chose Enrique as our tour guide. He couldn't have been nicer and was very knowledgable and proud of his culture. Highly recommended!!
We got off the ship and went with Scott Christian, our guide. We enjoyed it SO MUCH that 2 years later when we did the same cruise with Princess that when we got off the ship we asked...Where is "Scott Christian". Best adventure EVER! AND we are planning on using this company again when we go back!
