Your guide points out medieval towers and century-old estates as you wind through the heart of Chianti. Arrive at Fontaleoni, a family-run winery founded in 1959. A sommelier welcomes you into the cellar and walks you through the estate's evolution from mixed farming to producing some of the region's finest Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti. Settle in for the kind of lunch Tuscany does best. Taste four estate wines as you work through a spread of traditional appetizers, handmade pasta with tomato sauce, and cantucci biscuits dipped in sweet Vin Santo. This was a wonderful food and wine tasting experience. We boarded an air-conditioned bus and drove about one hour to the first winery. We sat in a beautiful tasting room and were served varieties of balsamic vinegar and olive oil lots of charcuterie, cheeses, and meats to start. We tasted about five wines and learned alot then we drove about 10 more minutes to a second winery. We tasted five wines, different varieties and enjoyed a wonderful lunch with an appetizer plate, followed by pasta and sauce. Lori our guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. The winery owners were lovely. The tour lasted about 9:30am-2:30pm.
