We were expecting a quaint, truffle hunting experience what we got was a staged recreation of a real hunt at a pretty, well-organized event center 45 minutes from Florence near San Gimignano. Our driver Shawn was a highlight - he shared all sorts of interesting info about Florence and his experience living there. We loved him. When we arrived we just waited around 40 minutes until our guide was ready. There were buildings for wedding receptions, wine tasting, cooking classes and dining. The truffle "hunting" took place in a small forest of oak trees planted to facilitate truffle growing. Our guide in camo and Flak jacket was animated , but spoke no English and the young man who was the interpreter said he had just started 2 weeks ago and also knew little English. Fortunately another hilarious guest who translated the truffle growing talk that was 50 minutes but should have taken 15. Finally, we walked into the forest edge and the dogs ran into the distance where we saw them retrieve a truffle each run. This was clearly a re-enactment, as the dogs did not dig up anything, the truffles were just on top. Their paws were clean, the truffles had no dirt on them even though we had seen the chart that shows them underground with a network of thin roots connected to the tree. By this time we were ready for lunch and it turned out delicious. We had 2 different pasta dishes with truffles and other yummy courses all paired with wines. Our trip back with Shawn our driver was just as fun as the trip out. On the return trip Shawn captivated us with his suggestions and relating of his wonderful life in Tuscany. Not a bad day, but not worth the $1,352. and 5+ hours of our day.
Dear Customer, Thank you for your kind review. First, I would like to explain how to do the Truffle Hunting during this tour. On this tour, we are doing Small Forest and demonstrate how to do the Truffle hunting with specific Dogs. Also, on this tour, we give more than seven wines to taste and pair foods and Special pasta with Truffles—a fully complete food package and Transport from Florence to the San Gimignano region with an English-speaking guide. We always got 5-star reviews. But unfortunately, for this tour, 3 Star. Finally, we need to pay attention to the customers; we are not taking to the big forest due to Customer Security and Safety.
