This kind of statues appeared for the first time in Egypt as scenes with two dimensional representations in the beginning of the dynastic period. However, the first representative of the king in the form of a sphinx was in the middle of the 4th dynasty.The first king who had a sphinx statue was King Djetef Ra, the successor of King Cheops, and it is considered as the 1st royal representation in the form of a sphinx. It was discovered nearby his pyramid at Abu-Rawash in El Giza and it is now kept in Louvre Museum.

Excellent, magnificent, one of the best trips I have taken in my life
We made a 20-day tour with Memphis Tours through Egypt and Jordan. The script was simply perfect and complete. We know all the important locations in both countries without couriers and with excellent accessories. The young Reem who organized us throughout the tour and attended us throughout the tour is simply exceptional. Very competent, attentive and resolute. Everything went well. And the company is professional. The organization is one who understands the matter and is concerned with serving customers well. We had logistical support from the company’s employees, in every location, both on arrivals and departures (Khaled in Egypt and Jordan I don’t remember the name). The guides Gammal, Amro, in Egypt, and Ahmad in Jordan, were of a simply wxexceptional competence, attention and affection. I leave here my thanks to everyone I leave with unforgettable memories of them all and of Egypt and Jordan.
Seven days spent between art, history and relaxation. We have always been well followed and assisted by guides, both on the trip to Abu Simbel, during the cruise on the dahabeya, and in visits to temples and tombs. A mention should certainly go to Moaz, a special and helpful guide who helped us understand, thanks to his excellent preparation and language properties, many facets of ancient Egyptian civilization. I put 3 because they are very present and attentive, we traveled with them and volkena tour, we did luxor, aswan, cairo and cruise on the nile. All good and good organization and careful, reliable and honest. The guide who accompanied us to luxor, aswan and Nile cruise, Moaz is really good, prepared and with an excellent Italian. We cruised on a dahabeya qeen Nefer, nothing fantastic but pretty, adequate and with wonderful onboard staff. They really pampered us. We stayed in Luxor at Sonesta St.George Luxor wonderful, Tolip at Aswan good, King pyraminds view at Cairo terrible. But they don't let reviews get into platforms so you don't know until you get there. The 3 stars in the rating are related to these last days in Cairo. All the monuments visited, Luxor, Edfu, Karnak, valley of temples with a guide like Moaz were really worth the trip and...the expense. Jan Ramsis the person from Volkena who organized the tour was always very attentive and present, I organized everything with great ease. Tour operators that I recommend but check the hotels and if you do not find reviews, ask to change.
Marwa & her team of tour guides were outstanding. She was extremely accommodating to our group. We had late changes to our trip & she was able to make it all work. Each tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. It was critical to have them along. From Alexandria to Cairo & our Nile cruise, we had expertise to make the sites more impressive & educational. A special shout out to Azab who accompanied us on the Nile cruise. He was outstanding!
This is the second time I have used Memphis Tours for an Egypt visit with the highlight of Giza/Cairo and a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan plus Abu Simbel. Marwa Samir does an exceptional job planning the trip and providing support and they are great value for money compared to the American alternatives for the same itinerary. Our guide on the Nile Cruise, Abdul Elhassany, deserves special mention he is an archeologist with two Masters degrees so added so much extra value with his extensive knowledge and great personality. Also Kerolos who looked after us in Giza/Cairo did an outstanding job. The Nile Cruise was on the Historia this time and the crew, the room and the overall experience were all at the elite level. I would highly recommend using Memphis Tours and the Historia if you plan going to Egypt.
Travel to Egypt with my daughter, excellent agency, friendly, experienced guides and with deep knowledge about Egypt (they even knew how to read and interpret hieroglyphs) and speaking Portuguese, kept everything promised and much more, it was an unforgettable experience, we adored.
