In this emerald cenote you will discover a natural waterhole, the main source of water for the Bacalar Lagoon.
Inside this cenote you will be able to learn about stromatolites, what are they and what are they for? Why are they so important to take care of them?
The travel time to reach this point is 30 minutes. In this area you can swim and it is an ideal place since it is not deep. Likewise, if we are lucky we can admire the various birds that nest on this island.
You will visit this cenote to appreciate the difference between a cenote and a lagoon, since the edge of this cenote is spectacular.
With a view over the lagoon you will appreciate the Fort of San Felipe, a site that was built to defend against the constant attacks of English pirates who came to Bacalar in search of natural resources.
Here you can enjoy some time swimming, from shallow to deep depths according to your interest, it is an ideal spot for photos. At the end we will have a return travel time of 30 minutes.
Stromatolites are a rock formation, important worldwide since they form the ozone layer. During the tour we will learn about their importance at various points.

We had a great time on the lagoon with Zayed, highly recommended
We booked our tour about 3 hours ahead so we had a destination point when we arrived. But you can also just go at this time of year (July) to book on the spot in Bacalar. Zayed was a great host. We really enjoyed the tour and learning about the geology of the area. It was super relaxing and chill.
A highly recommended boat tour around the lagoon with an opportunity to swim. Our guide Zayed was very friendly and informative. We chose an overcast day to go but the water was still warm and we could still admire the water’s beautiful colours.

It was an incredible tour and I spent a truly wonderful afternoon. Zayed Pérez was a very kind and approachable person. His explanations were excellent and helped me understand the history and characteristics of the Bacalar lagoon much better. The lagoon is truly beautiful, even more than I imagined, and it is undoubtedly totally worth visiting. In addition, Zayed had a gesture that I appreciated very much: he picked me up at my hotel, stored my luggage in the vehicle during the entire tour and, at the end, he took me directly to the bus terminal! That type of customer service makes a big difference. I recommend it 100%.
