With its giant red lantern, the lively Nakamise shopping street, and traditional atmosphere, Asakusa offers a timeless glimpse into old Tokyo. It’s the perfect place to enjoy culture, street food, and iconic photo spots.
The Sumida River offers a peaceful break from Tokyo’s busy streets, with wide riverside paths, scenic bridges, and views of the Tokyo Skytree. It’s a beautiful area for a relaxing walk, quiet photos, and watching boats glide along the water. The contrast between the calm river and the surrounding city makes it a refreshing stop during your Tokyo exploration.
Ameyoko is a lively open-air market stretching along the railway tracks between Ueno and Okachimachi. Packed with street food, local shops, spices, seafood, snacks, and bargain clothing, it captures the energetic “local Tokyo” vibe. A perfect place to explore daily life and try new flavors.
Ueno Park is one of Tokyo’s most historic and atmospheric public parks, offering a quieter side of the city with hidden temples, traditional pathways, and a local atmosphere away from the modern districts. Along the walk, we may visit Kiyomizu Kannon-do, Gojo Tenjin Shrine, and Hanazono Inari Shrine — small historic sites tucked inside the park that many visitors completely miss.
A short walk at the Shinobazu Pond — once a favorite spot for couples in the Edo period, today still peaceful, home to lotus, koi fish, turtles, and migratory birds throughout the year.
Meiji Jingu is one of Tokyo’s most important and peaceful Shinto shrines, surrounded by a large forest that creates a quiet escape from the city. Visitors walk through towering wooden torii gates and shaded paths before reaching the main shrine, where traditional rituals and serene architecture offer a timeless look into Japanese spirituality. It’s a calming, beautiful stop for culture and nature lovers alike.
Takeshita Street is the heart of Harajuku’s youth culture, famous for its colorful fashion boutiques, kawaii shops, creative snacks, and unique pop culture energy. The narrow street is always lively, packed with trendy clothing stores, crepe stands, and fun photo spots. It’s a must-visit area for anyone wanting to experience Harajuku’s playful and iconic style.
Shibuya is one of Tokyo’s most iconic districts, famous for Shibuya Scramble Crossing the busiest crossing in the world, neon lights, modern shopping malls, and a vibrant nightlife scene. It blends youthful energy with stylish urban culture, featuring landmarks like the Hachikō Statue — a beloved meeting point — and Miyashita Park, a trendy complex with rooftop greenery, cafés, boutiques, and great photo spots. Shibuya is the perfect destination for shopping, nightlife, and modern city exploration.
Stop at the iconic Godzilla Head, right in the heart of Tokyo’s nightlife district. Don’t miss the giant 3D cat billboard, a modern symbol of Shinjuku’s playful spirit, and explore Golden Gai — a maze of tiny bars each with its own unique charm. Then Up to the 45th-floor observatory for stunning city views — and Mt. Fuji on clear days. Optional: the Ninja Kabuki Tokyo show on demand.

From sushi and grilled skewers to local specialties, it offers a true taste of Tokyo’s culinary culture. A perfect stop to explore, taste, and experience the city through its flavors.
(Optional stop — tailored to your interests) Visit to Akihabara — also known as “Electric Town,” is the heart of Tokyo’s otaku culture. The area is filled with anime shops, retro game stores, multi-level arcades, and major electronics retailers. With its bright neon signs, cosplay energy, and themed cafés, Akihabara offers a fun and immersive dive into modern Japanese pop culture.
(Optional stop — tailored to your interests) Visit Kappabashi, Tokyo’s famous kitchenware district, located between Asakusa and Ueno. This area is known for its wide selection of Japanese knives, tableware, chopsticks, cookware, and the iconic plastic food displays seen in restaurant windows. A unique stop that offers insight into Japanese food culture and everyday craftsmanship, perfect for those interested in cooking, design, or local shopping.

Yoshi was an incredible tour guide! He made everything so easy 🤩🤩I was able to comfortably share what I wanted to see and ask for recommendations, and he helped build the absolute best itinerary for the trip. We visited so many amazing places, and he made sure to take me to the best spots in Akihabara for all the Otaku sites and shops, which was the most important highlight for me. Thank you so much, Yoshi! 🙏🏽❤️
Thank you so much for this amazing review! We’re thrilled that Yoshi made your private Tokyo tour such a memorable experience. Our goal is always to create a personalized Tokyo itinerary around each guest’s interests, whether it’s Japanese culture, temples, hidden local spots, modern Tokyo, or areas like Akihabara for anime, manga, otaku culture and shopping. We’re especially happy that you enjoyed exploring Akihabara and discovering the best spots with a local guide. Thank you again for choosing our Tokyo Private Walking Tour, and we hope to welcome you back to Japan for another Tokyo adventure! 🙏🇯🇵❤️

Thank you so much! I’m glad you had an amazing time exploring Tokyo with us! Hope to see you again
This tour was the perfect way to start our time in Tokyo. Sam arrived right on time and led us through the city with incredible knowledge and enthusiasm. As someone who chose to make Tokyo his home, he offers a unique perspective and genuinely cares about helping visitors understand the city's history, culture, and neighborhoods. It was an amazing experience and gave us a great foundation for the rest of our trip. One piece of advice: pace yourself and take breaks when Sam recommends them. There's so much to see and learn that you'll want the energy to take it all in. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo!
Thank you so much! We’re glad Sam made your private Tokyo tour both enjoyable and informative. It was a pleasure helping you discover the city.
Excellent discovery of Tokyo with Sébastien who helped us navigate public transportation and find shops according to our tastes. He showed us several neighborhoods and the Senso-ji temple. After this visit, we had a clear mind to visit Japan and the temples while respecting the rituals. A big thank you to Sébastien!
Sebastian, our tour guide, picked us up promptly at our hotel and explained our day step by step. It was a combination walking tour with train transfers. He gave us good information on each area that we visited and was very good about setting the tour to our interests, as well as assisting us with any souvenir shopping we were interested in doing. We would definitely look up this tour group in the future and hopefully get Sebastian as our guide!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear you had such a great time exploring Tokyo with Sébastien. He'll be thrilled to know you appreciated his knowledge, flexibility, and help throughout the day. It was a pleasure having you, and we'd love to welcome you back on your next visit to Japan. Safe travels, and see you next time! 😊
I had a great day with Renaud! He is a very interesting guy and despite being from France, is fluent in Japanese and knows the culture and customs of Japan better than most Japanese people. He can customize the tour to include just about any important sites to the itinerary, so do a little research before to ensure you make it the best day possible for what you want to see. I am a history professor by trade and he was very good about pointing out details about our stops that he knew I’d like relating to Tokyo’s unique history. There are many options for tours out there but this is the one you should take if you really want the true local experience. Renaud has lived in Japan for two decades and designed this tour to be perfect and highlight the very best things to see in Tokyo. Don’t waste your time, just book this tour and be done with it. You won’t regret it!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you had such a great time exploring Tokyo with me. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. I hope to see you again next time you're in Japan!
I enjoyed my nightlife tour with Renaud so much that I booked a daytime tour to see the temples, gardens and cultural highlights. Before the tour started, Renaud asked me what I had already done and what I was interested in doing to make sure that he didn't duplicate what I had already done or focus on things that I wasn't interested in. He met me at my hotel and took me to a mix of the famous sights that everyone expects to see as well as some hidden gems that I wouldn't have ever known to ask for. For example, we saw Senso-ji, but then afterward he took me to a local shrine nearby that was full of locals celebrating the Tanabata festival and then another small, hidden shrine that was maybe 200 feet from the huge crowds at Senso-ji but was completely empty. Instead of going to the skytree, he took me to a hidden bar thats open to the public on the top floor of the Asahi corporate headquarters where I was able to try some beers that are only available there while taking in views of the Sumida river and surroundings. For lunch, we went to a street vendor where I was able to try some really unique Japanese dishes and try some great sake. We went to a bunch of other places as well, including another really neat hidden shrine that most tourists were walking past, not even realizing it was there. Overall, it was a really great tour that ended up being about 7 hours from start to finish and it would have gone longer if I hadn't cut it off because I was too tired to do the last planned stop. I'm very, very pleased that I hired Renaud for this tour. He's an excellent guide and very reasonably priced for the service that he provides.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review! It honestly means a lot. Spending a few days together made it feel much more like showing Tokyo to a friend than simply guiding a tour, and I had a fantastic time as well. I’m really glad we could mix the famous highlights with the little hidden places that most visitors never get to experience. Thank you again for your kindness, the great conversations, and for trusting me with both your nightlife and daytime adventures. If your travels ever bring you back to Japan, you know there's still plenty left for us to explore together. Safe travels in Korea my friend, and I hope our paths cross again someday! 🇯🇵🍻
This was the most wonderful part of our vacation. We were treated to great locations with our fabulous guide Sebastien. He explained everything we saw as we traveled Tokyo that made the tour exciting and personal. We also had a special shopping request that he helped us fulfill. We recommend this tour highly.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted you had such a great time exploring Tokyo with Sébastien. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words to him. It was our pleasure to help make your Tokyo private tour both memorable and personal. We hope to welcome you back to Japan someday!
Sebastian our tour guide was one of the best guides I’ve ever had on our trip. He made our family’s first day in Tokyo just perfect. He was tremendously knowledgable, kind, patient, efficient and engaging for myself, my husband and two teenagers. We learned so much, saw a lot and had a wonderful time. He helped us navigate the trains and took the time to look over the rest of our time in Tokyo and give suggestions. He had so much knowledge of all the sites we went to and overall Japanese culture and traditions.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We're so happy Sébastien helped make your first day in Tokyo such a success. Giving our guests a smooth introduction to the city is exactly what we aim for. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to see your family again on a future Tokyo adventure!
