Toshogu Shrine is a lavishly decorated UNESCO World Heritage site in Nikkō, dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Iroha Mountain Road (Irohazaka) is a famous winding mountain road in Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, featuring 48 sharp hairpin turns—each named after a character of the old Japanese alphabet "Iroha." It connects central Nikkō to Lake Chuzenji and the Oku-Nikkō area. I showed up more than an hour ahead of the scheduled meeting time at the designated location. It was raining hard. No one showed up! No tour guide, no other tour members…I received NO email or text message, NO explanation, NOTHING. I sent messages asking if the tour was cancelled due to the weather…and I got NO reply. Needless to say, not happy with this tour/reservation.
The meeting point details and guide contact information were sent to you in advance. The tour operated as scheduled despite the weather conditions. If you were unable to locate the group at the meeting point, you should have contacted the guide directly using the information provided in your booking details.

We went to the pick up point 15 minutes early as recommended. We found the exact spot the picture of the pick up point was taken from. We waited for our guide who was supposed to be wearing a yellow vest with a yellow flag. We tried calling the number provided. We waited 15 minutes after the pickup time. The number didn't connect. The man with a yellow vest and flag never came. This is a scam.
I spent almost a month in Japan but my trip to nagana was the best. Nikko is such a beautiful place. The waterfall is amazing. My guide Chris Long enhanced this experience he treated me like a queen. I would not think twice to visit Nagano again. Thank you Chris.
