In Japan, many hot springs and public baths restrict entry to those with tattoos—but not this hidden local gem in Tokyo. On this guided experience, you’ll visit a tattoo-friendly sento (public bath) beloved by local residents for its retro atmosphere, healing waters, and authentic vibe. Learn Japanese bathing etiquette, receive a towel set, and fully enjoy the peaceful soak. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned traveler, this tour ensures a smooth, respectful, and immersive bathing experience. After the bath, unwind with a local drink or snack (optional) and get tips on other lesser-known Tokyo spots. Great for solo travelers, couples, or small groups seeking a genuine local cultural moment.

Being Chinese, we were a little apprehensive at first, but once you get into the swing of things around you then it gets easier. But going from Hot to Cold bath takes awhile for one body to take on the shock ....then initially you will get a little light headed too. But in momentum it just feels great especially in Japan weather now. I highly recommend me for a cold tired day of shopping or site seeing.
Thank you very much for sharing your honest experience with us. We’re glad to hear that, although it felt a little challenging at first, you were able to get into the rhythm and ultimately enjoy it. We appreciate you mentioning the hot and cold bath experience, as it can definitely take some time for the body to adjust. It’s wonderful to know that it felt refreshing in the end, especially in Japan’s current weather. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you again after another busy day of sightseeing or shopping.
Wow what a wonderful experience . I had Annie as my guide and she was great ! She made me feel so comfortable . I was so nervous but eventually got over it . She was so sweet and funny and made this experience so much better ! I would definitely book this with her.
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re truly happy to hear that you had such a wonderful experience and that Annie made you feel comfortable and at ease. It’s great to know she helped you overcome your nerves with her kindness, humor, and warm personality. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we’ll be sure to share them with Annie. We’d love to welcome you again in the future!
We were met by a lovely guide called, Anna who took me and my 2 friends and a German girl to a traditional bathing spot. This bathing ritual was a wonderful experience once everyone got over the fact that we’d be naked! Yep no bathing costumes required for this activity. Thankfully it was female only and really relaxing, and once we all got into the various pools the stress of the day faded. There are a variety of pools at different temperatures to enjoy - we particularly enjoyed getting into really hot baths and then plunging into the ice cold one. Everything was provided including soap, shampoo and towels. For hygiene purposes you are expected to wash your whole body thoroughly before entering any of the pools. Great experience and felt relaxed and rejuvenated by the end. I don’t believe I would have been able to do something like this without the aid of a guide. Also, this Onsen allowed people with tattoos which was the reason for picking it.
Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that Anna made you feel comfortable and guided you through the onsen experience. It’s wonderful that you and your friends enjoyed the variety of baths and felt relaxed and refreshed by the end. We’re especially glad the tattoo-friendly onsen gave you the chance to enjoy this unique part of Japanese culture. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you again for another special experience in Japan!
This was so relaxing. We met our guide, Kazu, right outside the train station indicated on our booking, & he walked us a short distance to the onsen & educated us about the history & proper etiquette. My friends flew from the US the day before & said this was THE perfect way to get over jet lag. Kazu got us a drink after & even helped us figure out where to go to dinner in the neighborhood. As the title says, tattoo friendly! Not every onsen is (though more are than there used to be).
Thank you so much for the wonderful review!☺️ We’re so happy to hear that you enjoyed Japan’s onsen culture.😆 The bathhouse you visited can be enjoyed as many times as you like — please feel free to visit again and relax!
