Senso-ji Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo. The name Asakusa appeared for the first time in the history of Japan in 628, when a small statue of the Kannon was caught by two fishermen in Asakusa. The people in the village built a small temple for the statue not knowing anything about its origin. The statue has been kept hidden in a sealed wooden box since 645, when a Buddhist monk who had been invited from Nara to see the statue suggested doing so. The box was opened once in 1868 by officers sent by the government to execute orders regarding the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. The temple received constant support from powerful samurai and it became a family temple of the Tokugawa shogun in the early 17th century. Most of the temple buildings were lost during the Second World War. The main building was reconstructed in 1958, and the five-story pagoda in 1973.
However the main Tsukiji Market was replaced in 2018 by the Toyosu Market, the outer market at Tsukiji remains. There are still various restaurants and shops containing numerous interesting items. (Some shops and restaurants are closed on Sundays,Wednesdays, and national holidays)
Ginza has eclectic boutiques and galleries, the shops selling Japanese traditional crafts, and incredible selection of restaurants and cutting edge architecture.
The Imperial Palace used to be the Castle of Tokugawa shogun family from 1603 to 1868. It became The Imperial Palace when the political power returned to the Emperor Meiji. The Imperial Palace grounds have many of the perfectly manicured pine trees and lawns which can be enjoyed from a car. You can also take a short stroll to see the palace walls and bridges.
The National Diet (Parliament) building is one of only a few buildings in Tokyo that survived the air raids of 1945. The building was built in 1936.
There are various buildings designed by the world’s leading architechts in Omotesando. You can also find every famous brand neme in fashion.
Harajuku will give you some insight into the youth culture of Japan. You will see unique fashion trends and outrageous design in fashion and buildings.
Meiji shrine has a pleasant atmosphere and nice break from the busy streets. You might be able to see a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony on Saturdays and Sundays.
Shibuya crossing is the busiest intersection in the world. It makes Times Square seem like a sleepy village.

It was wonderful and very convenient to have a private tour van pick our family from domestic terminal for 5 hour tour for layover at Tokyo and drop us off later at international terminal. Our tour guide Ms Miku definitely made our tour even more amazing. She accommodated the tour to our family's agenda. She was very knowledgeable and explained history and significance of the places we visited. And we had few delicious food station stops during our walk she recommended that was delicious. Made Harajuku stop longer bec kids wanted to spend more time here. Ms Miku definitely made our 5 hour layover tour an extraordinary experience. We highly recommend Ms Miku as a guide and her company. And thank you for the box of variety of delicious snacks and refreshments.

This tour was the highlights of Tokyo. Douglas our tour guide was a delight. He was waiting for us as we arrive, was knowledgeable about our destinations, was flexible in extending our time and planned on the fly. We had planned on a five hour tour and extended it to eight. He even took us to a local restaurant and ordered a unique dining experience for our group. Douglas went the extra mile to meet all our needs. He even assisted us in shopping for a special gift. At the end of our tour, Douglas walked us to our gate and made sure we were safely on our way. All of us would highly recommend this tour and suggest requesting Douglas as your guide. Thank you Douglas for setting the tone for our amazing adventure! The Fab Four.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed the layover and that we could capture some wonderful memories along the way. It was a pleasure having The Fab Four, and I’m happy you liked okonomiyaki! I truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again on another adventure in the future! The Fab Doug
Our guide/driver, Soya, was great. Spoke English very well and adjusted the tour for some of our interests. He was friendly, we felt very safe and the van was spacious and comfortable. All in all a great layover tour. Thanks Soya!
Dear Archie1922 Thank you for choosing our service this time. Great talking with you all! I wish you could come back to Japan, and hopefully you could enjoy skiing and explore Japan more widely! Best regards, Outech Soya
Syota was my tour guide. He was on time, very good communicator and the car was super clean. He knew all the locations I wanted to see. My phone was dead so unable to take photos. He loaned me his phone to take pictures. I wanted to have lunch at a Japanese restaurant. He found one within walking distance of the temple.
Dear Phillip H, Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. Your advice in life still remains with me. I hope to see you again when you come to Japan. Best regard, Outech Nissy
