Description

Explore one of Northern Vietnam’s best-preserved traditional handicraft villages on this unique half-day photo adventure. We head out to Tho Ha, a riverside village renowned for its charming ancient architecture and production of rice paper pancakes. The local ferry crossing to this village is like a journey back in time. The village retains mud-brick houses and winding, narrow alleyways typical of the old Red River Delta, among which residents spread out their rice paper to dry. We’ll also be exploring the village workshops, where locals produce a variety of customary rice products. In the village and markets you’ll be able to capture wide angles, with frames full of activity in every corner, exploring various compositions. The workshops and alleyways are dark and moody, and use of natural lighting can create a fantastic atmosphere. Mixing with the villagers and craftsmen also offers portraits and a cultural perspective not possible on your typical tour.

Great Experience and the Photos We’d Hoped For!

I had be wanting to see the incense village for years - and this experience did not disappoint! We had an excellent time, learned about the area, interacted with the people, AND got the photos we had hoped for. We will definitely book another tour next time we’re in Vietnam!

Absolute great experience!

I have always been trying to learn more about street and documentary photography, and I know Vietnam is the perfect place for doing so. I contacted Vietnam in Focus. They helped me design a private itinerary which fits my interests and schedule. Both my partner and I had great fun exploring Vietnam. The guides are extremely talented, nice and helpful. The food and accommodation are nice. In addition, I felt truly cared about during the whole trip. Really appreciate everything they did to me.

Simply the best

Vietnam in Focus – Thổ Hà Traditions (Rice Paper Village) My day with Tung in Thổ Hà was absolutely superb. From the moment we started, with shots taken while waiting for the ferry to cross into the village, Tung guided me to see things differently. He has such a masterful eye, and anyone looking to improve their composition skills would benefit from his expertise. His approach is gentle yet effective, suggesting subtle improvements and showing new perspectives on the scenes before us. As the light began to rise, we photographed the village market setting up for the day. We then moved to a casual game of volleyball, where Tung expertly transferred his skills to capture the scene. The real highlight, however, was the rice paper production. This process is truly special, and it was fascinating to see it up close, from the ground-floor production spaces to the meticulous placement of rattan racks for drying. Wandering the alleys and capturing the essence of it all was a deeply immersive experience. Working with Tung to "see" the moments in front of us and connect with this centuries-old tradition was unforgettable. The result was a collection of stunning photos, but more importantly, the chance to witness and document a piece of local culture. I couldn’t recommend this experience highly enough.

Great “Photographer-led” Photo Tour

Really fruitful tour with great, great photo opportunities thanks to the local photographer guide making it possible to get up close through to really get the full story of this lovely village! What I appreciate most about tours by Vietnam in Focus is their dedication to ensure all their photography tours are led by photographers. It takes one to know one so they say, and that really helps! I’ll be back for more tours I’m sure :)
